Any negative comments about IDS?
Slope, roll off your throttle, then roll it back on quickly. That jerk you will feel is your driveline lash.

My bike was built IN May, it didn't have it. As far as I know, no 07's came with it.
As far as looking at build dates to narrow down the clatter, it's been done and there is no rhyme or reason, some have it and some don't all through the production year.

Another potentially dumb question: what is driveline lash? Can it be described?

Every power transfer interface in the driveline has tolerances. The primary chain and final drive belt cannot be kept totally tight, every set of gears meshing cannot have zero "slop" or free-play between them. When changing power flow direction (from accelerating to decelerating or the other direction) every one of these tolerance points will have a certain amount of free-play they go through before the gear tooth pressure transfers to the other side of the tooth, or the chain/belt tension transfers to the other side of the span between sprockets. Add up every bit of free play for the total amount of "driveline lash".
Depending on the rapidity of the powerflow direction change the result when all lashes are taken up can go unnoticed or be a hard hit. The IDS actually introduces an extra amount of lash to the system but, at least as far as having it all taken up in the acceleration direction, greatly softens the blow.
The way it (the effect) was described earlier is good and true, but perhaps the most maddening aspect of large amounts of driveline lash shows itself during very light load and trying to maintain steady speed, where the driveline can spend a great deal of time bouncing lightly around both ends of the lash.
