I take U.S. 27 down to 997 and us that to go in the back way to Homestead and Florida City. Brings you right out on 1 heading down to Key Largo. Spending the night in Key Largo and then hitting the ride down in the morning isa good idea.
See you post lots, now get on that bike, come to Key Wast, stop by & have a cold one with me & I'll pay your fuel bill down. No joke, now you do not have an excuse not to go to Key West! Love to meet ya. Now- get in the garage, tighten the bolts, do an oil change & be prepaired to a have some fun! You only live right down the road a piece.
Thanks for the infoguy's, Fastharley I will look for your sign on Duval, as for hurricanes it looks right now that it won't be an issue.

Hurricanes? we don't allow no stickâen Hurricanes that weekend! If you really want to see a vortex, look into my blender (LOTS). What happens next may not be pretty but necessary. Duval opens around 11am to midnight.
I grew up in KW. Watch out for the Key Deer in Big Pine Key and the speed limits associated with the deer. The deer are very small and the police take their safety very serious. Ride down Duval St. and drink a few at the Hog's Breath Saloon! Enjoy.
Dress for bugs. I rode The Keys a few years ago, no fairing or windshield, and the bugs were brutal. I got stung several times, and had them smashed all over me.
It was a cool ride and looking fiorward to doing it agian.
I've visited the Keys since the early '70s. Summer's ugly in the keys, don't ask me how I know. I always visit the Half-Shell Raw Bar and of course Hog's Breath Inn.You can visit Hog's breath anytime by webcam! If you are a first-time visitor, take the touristy Conch Train as it will show you the highlights of the island and then you'll know where you want to hang. There's off-street parking but you can cover most/all of it on foot.Pet the cats and breathe in the literate airof the Hemingway House - it keeps the 7-toedcats fed! Mel Fisher's isworth the price ofadmission if you like treasure hunting. Crawl up and down Duval St. and don't pass on the conch fritters and live oysters. I avoid the waterfront area with the jugglers and such because that was built for the tourists and not you & me. There's too much other local action going on to get bottlenecked over there! Truman's Western White House is also worth a stop if you're flush with time. And you can stay in Marathon for rest and avoid the tourist crunch that can make Key West annoying when you want to turn it off. And you'll be just over the Seven Mile Bridge from the Bahia Honda State Park (btw, no alcohol on FL state parks & beaches). Nice local eateries, Tiki bars and watering holes too along the Marathon-Key West Stretch. Big Pine Key looks pretty tired however compared to years ago, and of course the famous Sid & Roxies Turtle Inn is shuttered and the cannery no longer packs my beloved Green Turtle Soup. Oh well, maybe like a Phoenix it will rise once again.
I promise you that youwill come back again someday, if this is your first time.
