My buds and I go down every year from Daytona and this year is no different. We leave thursday, all day to get to Lauderdale, party, then get up and do the run on Friday. You will Love it!!!!!
Getting ready to head out on a ride to Key West next week from NC there is a little poker run/rally going on down there. While I have flown there before I have never ridden, are there and must see's on the way?? be it senic or little hole in the wall. Anything to steer clear or be wary of?? Speed traps??? Thanks.

I'm glad you posted this. Buddy and I are headed down to Key West before Biketoberfest next month, then riding back up to Daytona for the party... some good info in this thread, thanks to all.
Key West Poker Run is sponsor by the local Harley dealer down here. A1A down the Florida coast is great if you have the extra time. Last Chance is a good place to stop. Alabama Jacks is the best place for conch fritters. There are many place to stop and eat from there. Make a quick stop in Islamorada (mm 85) and have one of the Tiki Bar famous Rum Runners. From there, smooth riding down to the Key. One big caution, observe the posted speed limits, several areas slow down especially near Deer Key in observance of the elusive local deer population. From Florida City down to Key West will have several stops for those playing the poker hand. Keeps your eyes open as I have met some of the famous bike builders at these stops (Eddie Trotta, Chicha, Russell Mitchell, and Billy Lane).
If you're looking to party, you've got your schedule all messed up! Go to Biketoberfest first then to Key West. That way you'll be there for Fantasyfest. Cheap beer and naked women.
my wife and i rode down to Key West, five years ago next spring, from Wisconsin.was a great trip, but don't try to beat any storms while riding on Hwy 1.we ran into a wall of water, thought the wind off the Atlantc was going to send us into the Gulf.cars were going off the road.such a narrow shoulder couldn't safely pull over.couldn't see, took off my glasses and gave them to her and said start praying.came up to a wider shoulder and pulled over, got off the bike, stood there completely drenched and all we could do is laugh and thank God for his protection.the rain stopped and we pulled in at tha Holiday Inn at Key Largo, filled up every drier in the place.if you plan on camping at all, make a reservation at Baha Honda state park, you can pitch a tent right by the water, almost paridise.watch out for the little deer in one of the Keys. have a great trip!
wanted to fly into kw next spring. now im trying to talk my wife into flying to florida renting a dresser and driving to the keys . has anybody done this and any info would be deeply appreciated
Rental in FL are almost illegal because of the cost. We rented on in Daytona for Speed Weeks last year and with the mandatory Insurance it was almost $250 a day.
You might look at having your bike delivered to a dealer in souther FL, by one of the Bike Transportation Companies, might be cheaper.
probably the best time of year is right after Ester(Easter).less people ,lower prices on motels and the temperature is not quite as hot as summer.also stop at the state welcome center at the state line and get a traver coupon book.we got 300 daller rooms for $65-$75.
High rates for Hotels, no last min. hotels available, too many bikers, lewd and lascivious behavior, drunk bikers staggering back to their rooms, mutant Key Deer just waiting to pounce down on you while traveling along A-1-A during a hot spell with hurricanes breathing down your neck,
Oh-My-God, what are we to do?
Well, start by coming to my booth & tell me you provide good stuff on this form & I will vortex up you either a PiĂąa Colada or Strawberry Daiquiri with or without umbrella. Hell, you can even dump it in a beer bottle with one of those rubber thingies with a zipper for all I care. Look for the 20' American Flag & a sign that matches my avatar. A word of advice, do not get too drunk as you may get a deal too good to pass up. You may wake up with a blond like in the below photo. Now bitch up, get on that bike and Let'sGetReadyToPARTY!
