IMO, and that's all it is, dealerships and their philosophies on customer satisfaction vary greatly.

A good dealer will first of all, have a good service department to run a used bike through. They will do any needed service and repairs before they put it on the sales floor with a 60, or maybe even 90 day warranty.

A bad dealer will,,,,,I don't really know what a bad dealer will do. I am lucky enough to have a pretty good dealer about 50 miles away, that I have bought several used bikes from with no problems. BUT, there are 2 dealers closer to me that I avoid at all costs.

The $15,000 special may, or may not need some big repairs.

I've ridden all over the country, and there are some very good dealers and then, there are some really crappy ones.

As always YMMV.

My brother in law wanted to get rid of his 2013 Road Glide. He was offered $6,000 from the dealership he purchased it from used. I told him to get it inspected (friend has a shop) and we’d try to get $8,000 for it. He didn’t want to take the time and sold it to the dealer for the $6,000. They actually said they shouldn’t give him that much but that’s what they told him so they’d stick to it. Don’t know how close to asking they got for it but it sold about 2 weeks later. It was on their website for $10,888

Has lots of upgrades from newer models and may have some factory warranty left on it. And you can always try to negotiate on price, $21,300 etc. They may say no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'd start at 20,000, but in doing so I'd have all my ducks lined up ready to pay when I got there, Cash, Check, etc.

24 should have all the rdrs stuff. Makes a difference, but you should check. Also, the 117 motor is just a much better lump for touring. The 107 is good for something like a Street Bob, but not a heavy touring bike.

The new electronics are nice. People say that they would rather have the analog gauges, but, after seeing what the new dash is capable of, and playing around with it, you might come to appreciate it more. There are threads on hooking up the Cardo, but I think they've gotten most of the bugs worked out. If you only owe a little more, you should have it completely paid off by the time it gets to be as old as either of the other ones. And the miles you put on it will be yours.

If I had the room, I would definitely have a glide of some kind. My baby has to come inside. And all I have is a 36 inch door.

I rode an FLHR in 2001 with an 88 and a 5 speed. Prior to that I had an 80 Evo, and a before that a 1200 Sporty. I had a bike with a 107. I now have one with a 117. The 117 is better.

The Dealerships are in business to make money. So are the Indy shops.
There's a handful of the larger Indy shop sellers online, some will even ship the bike to you.

I have no doubt, I would enjoy a faster bike. But I too rode 2001 FLHR, across country. really liked boring it.

I have read here you can't tour two up on 103. Which just makes me laugh, cause dinosaurs did.

No argument, except for heat issues with the earlier twnkies. Those old 88s would cook your jewels at prolonged highway speeds. The newer ones were better.

To clarify my point. The 107 is a great motor. It kinda runs out of juice as the rpms climb. The 114 is better, but the 117 pulls strong across the rpm range. I've heard the gen 2 is even better. If you ride the two back to back, the difference is obvious. They say the 121 is really the gas, but the price tag for that setup is like buying two bikes. That's a bike you could easily fall in love with though. Don't ride it unless your wallet is fat. It's like that one chick you know you'll never be able to hold onto, but you wouldn't turn it down on a fluke. Now, nothing else compares.

My opinion, of course. Ymmv.
