I recently got a Snap-On Apollo D-9 programer from a guy at work dirt cheap. The selling point for me was learning that it would be useable for my Harley among the many things it could do for passenger vehicles. Well fast forward to the other night and I find out that I need a special adapter for it to work on 2020 or newer Harley’s. I spoke with our Snap-On rep and the main part I’d need is $425 for a simple cable more or less.
My question is, does anybody know of alternative cables I can use to get the full usage from this scanner? I’ve found one part on eBay for about $20 and have it on the way, but the last part which is Snap-On part number EAK0347L35A, is all that’s holding me up right now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I paid $500 for my cables in 2022, they one that do the 4 and 6 pin diagnostic connectors
That was in addition for the $2300 for the scanner in 2022, and a $1200 update last fall, and I bought a second one in 2024 to leave at the shop to the tune of $3000
I just gave my friend my Harley code reader that worked on 2002 to 2013 bikes, HD stopped selling them a long time ago for some reason
But when my friend could not find the HD code reader in my tool box I told him where the S.O. Scanner was and the cables for the bikes and he used that... and I am surprised he willingly gave it back. He really liked it.
If you do blow the money on the cables you can do key fob programming up to the software revision you have.
If you have say revision 24.2 you can do up to 2024 bikes.
You can do cars too, any SO scanner past revision 17.2 will do fobs up to the latest update and back quite a way, like FORD PATS keys if you don't have 2 existing programmed keys.
You should be able to make a cable with the connections here.. Snap system should have a standard automotive connector. in the pic. Need to find the mating connector. Also need to find the DLC connector for the DLC. The only connection points you should need are 12V, GND, CAN high and CAN low. You can make the cable and charge half price.
The Amazon cables will not work with the Snap On Products. It will Identify the bike by make, model and year but wont let you access any data at module or pull codes. It says Install the HAR-1 adapter and try again. I have personally tried 3 different generic ones and they all work the same way. Found out they have some proprietary cable that activates the software when you plug it in. My dealer says the kit is about 800.00
