No need to change the belt as long as there is no cracks like it shows in the book. I have a 187,000 miles on my 1999.

Yes, I changed the comp about 30k ago while I was chasing a noise. I still have the comp I took out as a spare because the issue was not the comp. The chain tensioner was replaced too. It's showing minimal wear so I didn't plan to replace it this time. That's pretty easy to replace anyway if the need arises. But thanks for mentioning it!

It will have most of the wear parts to the inner primary you would need, in order to remove & replace the Inner & outer primary.
I believe it comes with the starter o-ring. It also has the five inner primary case bolts with the sealing bolt heads, which normally cost $5 each. Unless your dealer does parts mark-up over HD MSRP, it should cost $68.58. That is cheaper than buying all those parts separately.

The gasket set doesn't include the outer primary cover gasket, but that can often be reused if not damaged when removed. It does include a new derby cover gasket.

If you want/need to replace the shifter shaft seal, that will need to be purchased extra.
You can get that gasket set in black so you don't have a silver line between the primary and engine.

I don't change expensive parts unless I need to. Check the belt and rear pulley carefully before deciding to change. You save a little by doing it while the primary is apart but you have to remove the swingarm to change that belt and it's a lot of work. Plus the belt and pulley are at least $250. Mine didn't get changed until 120,000. My clutch has 175,000 on it and works like new. At least check the plates and steels with a caliper to see if they are within limit.

@cncmike
What's interesting is that the gasket "kits" seem to be almost the same price
HD #25700226 (grey primary housing gasket), US$69.58
HD #25700337 (black primary housing gasket), US$68.95

But the individual primary housing gaskets differ in price
HD #34934-06 (grey primary housing gasket), US$29.26
HD #34948-08 (black primary housing gasket), US$48.13

It's strange that the gasket kit in black is cheaper than the kit with the grey gasket, but the individual black gasket has a US$18 up charge!

Upgrade the alternator?

Maybe go up a couple teeth on the pulley?

Since the comp is already done.

The stock seal on a 6 speed TC is double lip.

Have you replaced the ol' lady for a newer version? Since you are in the cam chest, no time like the present. Do the rebuild in the living room and she may just replace herself...
