i recently tried the progressive PRE_LOAD adjusters....JUNK ! one actually blew out and the retaining ring chipped my new 25 RKS right next to filler neck area (not pleased)...
since that fiasco, i have installed the FOX GRIP cartridges / springs in front and the FOX QSR-QS3 rear resi coil overs. the ride is superb and very easily adjusted.
i am 265lbs / 6-1 and it made a huge impact on the comfort overall....i have the FOX QS3 version on my 22 lowrider S and it was worlds better as well.
Can't go wrong with Fox I've had Fox, RWD, And Ohlins
All great suspensions.
Okay. I was in their shop and talked to the techs and George, their GM. They asked for both my wifes and my weight to customize the setup. They are super nice people; I've put few thousand miles since the install. The ride is reasonably compliant, bike feels a lot more planted and tracks way better than with stock front forks.
im not by any means saying they arent very nice people (they are) and im not saying they cant customize the product in other ways. Im not trying to bash them at all. They told me they use the same spring weight in the forks no matter the rider weight because most of the weight that changes is over the rear. You can change the fork oil weight too to accomodate different compression and rebound characteristics.
For different weights of rider/passenger set ups can be adjusted by the air space and the preload to suit the application. There are other spring options if they are required (they very seldom are though). You can do a lot with air space and preload.
I've come to the conclusion that my bike will ride better with chrome fork lowers on it. While they are being installed I guess I'll pick a cartridge to go in there just for drill.
