I've seen a few threads on this general topic, but none really addressed the questions I have. I realize there are several good units available that are motorcycle-specific (including the Roadtech available from our stealers). I'm looking for one for use ONLY on my Ultra (I already have a great Bell for use in my Avalanche). I'm interested to hear the good, bad, or ugly regarding experiences. I'd also like to be able to hear it even using the stereo, etc. Thanks!
IMO, if you limit the field to detectors that have "Made for Motorcycles" on the box, you'll be ruling out some of the best. If it runs on 12V DC, that's "motorcycle specific" enough for me

From the image you posted, it appears your bike has lowers. I've been using a V1 inside the left lower on my Ultra Classic. Seems to work fine, although I have to point it somewhat to the side to get it to fit in there. Radar detectors are directional, and they need to be pointed directly to the front for best performance, but this has been working pretty well, largely due to the fact that the V1 is the best performing device on the market. I also have the external audio adapter, and have the V1's audio plugged into the aux input on the radio. It's mono, so it only comes out of one side, but it's plenty loud. Not sure how you'd go about having both stereo and radar detector both active on the bike's audio system simultaneously, since only one music source can be selected at a time. Maybe there's a way, just not sure what it would be.

Obviously, with the thing in the lower, it's not possible to see the display with its directional arrows, and that is important to me, but motorcycling involves compromises sometimes.

I do also own an Escort (Passport 8500 X50) and use it mostly in my Goldwing. It's good, but it's not a V1. And, it's much longer, so no way it's ever gonna' fit in my UC's lower.

Check with your law enforcement to determine the type of devices in use to check speed. If your riding takes you where LIDAR is in use, save yourself a ton of money and slow down. There is no device that will detect LIDAR and give you time to slow doen. LIDAR travels at the speed of light, the beam is small enough at a distance to pick out a motorcycle in dense traffic, and there is no bleed of signal to read before encountering the trap. SoCal is all-LIDAR now, so after 15 years of X,K and Ka band detection, I hung up my detector. The detector will go off alright, at the same time your speed was computed and your photo locked in the viewfinder.

Maybe but if a car or two in front of you are getting shot and there not speeding then you may be next to get shot. And you can pick up the stray signal and it will set yours off then you can slow down. If your the only bike out there then your right.

No, there is no "stray signal" with LIDAR. It's a light-beam emitter, not a radio-wave device. When you get a signal, you're busted.

If you need a waterproof detector, you ride faster than I do in the rain. The V-1 is a very nice unit.

I like the Road Tech model, mounted to the fairing on my Ultra. Waterproof and has never failed to warn me. It seems to work as well as my Escort 8500 on my Suzuki Bandit but I don't have to cover it or remove it in the rain.
