I just installed 12” KST bison baggers on a 2009 Ultra classic. Spoke to KST and was told a +4 clutch cable would work.
I bought a +4 and installed (following the factory routing through fairing and back out the front fairing grommet) but it was too short - looked to be roughly 4” too short, but maybe even closer to 6”.
I took pictures of the routing before removing the original, reviewed the service manual, and multiple videos and pictures online - routing seems correct.
I verified the the cable I purchased is a +4 both based on the packaging and using a tape
measure. I reached out again to KST and they told me again that +4 is what they recommend.
I’m dumbfounded.
Before I go and order a +10 cable, I just want to know if anyone has installed these on a 2009 Ultra and what cable length you used while still running it in the fairing.
I put 12” bars on my wife’s 13 street glide, fat bagger inc bars. They recommend a +4 but I went +6 and have extra. I followed the factory routing the best I could, didn’t take the best pictures of the clutch cable route when I took it out.
**Sorry, just realized it is a 2009. I have no experience with pre- Rushmores. I do know there was no extra length to play with on those.
Disregard the following.
That makes no sense at all.
I have used stock before on 10 and 12 inch bars.
On my 21 SGS I have 14 inch bars and added the Fat Bagger 4 inch extension which worked perfectly. I later switched out the entire cable to Magnum Shielding 4 inch over stock.
I cannot figure out how you can now be that short.
Did you reroute the cable differently from stock?

Am I dreaming or do I remember reading about guys installing 12” bars on their fairing baggers and using the OEM clutch cables and brake lines all the time?
OP, what does “routing seems correct” mean? Even with the +4”, a little mistake in the routing and securing of the cable can leave you short.
I had 12" bars on my 2005 Road Glide using all stock cables and wiring. Re-routed to increase slack, yes, but same lines. +4" should be more than enough, anything longer is going to hanging in the breeze. Post pics, good luck.
