While the bold part I highlighted is true, there are other details that point to why ABS modules in the 2008-2011 models were “failing at a greater rate than their peers.”
So, I plan on buying DOT 4 from Autozone. Is there a kind I need to make sure I buy or avoid? Never had a ABS bike long enough to worry about this. Bike only has 10k miles on it.

I use Prestone, but Im pretty sure any name brand brake fluid has anti-corrosion additives.
I remember the deal with the Dow fluid, but didn't figure the OP needed to dig too deep into it. In the photo it looks like someone replaced the stock front master cylinder with a chrome one, so hopefully the fluid was flushed at some point. Even on my DOT 5 bikes I completely flush the brakes on my at least every two years. Cheap as the fluid is it gives peace of mind especially if you forget it for a while.
If those mufflers the owner gave you are stock they should run good. If they are Screamin' Eagle you may even like the sound.
Sounds like you've got a great bike OP, good luck.

Thanks! All of the controls are chrome, so I am assuming they were changed and flushed. Hopefully the master cylinder rebuild fixes my issue. The brakes work great, the lever just doesnt return fully.

Oh, so you didnt figure the keyboard warriors needed to know, huh?
Went and got the correct size battery during lunch, went home and installed it, and installed the trickle charger at the same time. I also got a brake bleeder and brake fluid. I am tired of bleeding them the old fashioned way. I am going to do the rear brakes also just for the piece of mind of having fresh fluid in both systems.

The reason I phrased it that way is because a lot of posters on these forums have said ABS brakes can be properly flushed by "activating" the ABS module by stopping hard. It always irked me when they would say properly cycling the ABS module during flushing was not necessary.
Messed with it some more. 4 way flashers work, they just take a little more finesse to turn on than I thought. Now, I am removing a crap load of shitty under lights that look like a 2 year old installed them.
Also used the procedure in the FSM to change the PIN. Since I only have one fob that was important to me. Once I get the title in my name I will take a joy ride to a HD dealer and get a new FOB and another key.
Also has a nice surprise. I took what were supposed to be the original OEM slip ons out of the bag they were in. Turns out they are H.D. 80848-10 Screamin Eagle slip ons. These are supposedly developed by Super Trapp. They need a lot of cosmetic love, but all the parts are there. I will be cleaning them up and putting them on the bike to replace the obnoxious ones on there now.
