I did it!
You will love that ride around the mitten! I did it early September last year, right after I bought my 2003 Road Glide. I started at my parents house outside of Flint, stopped in Sterling to visit relatives, then up the Lake Huron coast to the bridge. I crossed over to the UP and spent a couple days riding around up there with my uncle that lives in Goetzville. Then back across the bridge and around the Lake Michigan side. I think I stopped at every marina, beach and scenic spot on the entire road! I could have stayed forever in Cheboygan, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids or Traverse City. I even went up and around the "Little Finger" area because I had nowhere to go and all the time in the World to get there. It took me a couple days to make it down to Manistee from Mackinac. Then I cut back across to Sterling for more time and cold beer with the relatives. It had been 30+ years since I was in some of those places. I had just returned from working for 6 months in Iraq and REALLY enjoyed the freedom, the beautiful water, and the green trees. I had forgotten how beautiful it is up there. I havn't lived in Michigan since the mid 70's and it was probably the best vacation and motorcycle trip I have ever taken. The weather was fantastic, hot actually by MI standards and I was by myself most of the trip but loved every minute of it. I spent 9 days total and could have gone for more! Congrats on the new bike. Take that trip!
That is the ride I have been dreaming of ever since the wife gave me the blessing.
As a kid we used to camp those areas often. As an adult - It always seems like I'm on the highway going from Point A to Point B.
I am really looking forward to traveling Northern Michigan.
It's going to be a long hard wait this winter for the bike.
It's been a while since I have ridden regularly. So, I am taking a riders coarse in the spring.
Also, I am selling a boat - No one wants to buy a boat in the fall/winter.
I too, have been reading all the post of guys getting their new bikes.
I feel the excitement with them - for sure!!! [sm=happy046.gif]
I really like it when they post their pics. [sm=Flahssssss.gif]
Some of them even make me nervous when they talk about being so rattled that they have their bikes delivered to their house so they don't have to drive it off in front of the group at the dealer. I used to dream about that day. Now, they got me rattled too - But, its a good rattle.
