Hello everyone! I will be picking up my new 08 Ultra later this week (having sold my 06 Wing) and have several questions. It's my understanding that HD items installed at time of delivery
are coveredunder the warranty and extended warranty. I would like to install the 103 kit, but I am concerned about many of the issues reported here such as heat, decel pop, etc.
I'm purchasing the bike from a dealer 75 miles away and returning for any problems and fine tuningwould be difficult. My questions are as follows:
1) Can I take the bike to my local dealer and have install done and keep the warranty, or do I have to do the install where the bike is purchased?
2) Is the 103 kit worth the money? I'm being quoted about $2300 which includes the 2008 SERT.
3) Should I just wait until the 2008 Thundermax comes out and justinstallpipes and Air cleaner?
4) If I have the parts installed from the purchasing dealer, will the local dealer cover any problems?
Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome - we likely know each other - road Wings fer the past 11 years or so, switched this past November. Mah '07 UC now has a tad over 10k miles on it, an' ah'm LOVIN' it!
For me, went with Basani TrueDuals, race tuner an' K&N filter - does jest fine, even with our Bushtec trailer behind. Any _HARLEY_ item installed at time of installation is covered by the full HD warranty. Note that this does NOT apply ta non-HD parts!!
So....fill out yer profile, pull up a chair an' tell us a bit more 'bout yerself!
To have add ons covered, thney must be done before you take delivery of the bike. There will be no 08 tmax anytime soon if ever due to the 08 having a new ECM. 2300.00 is a excellent price if it includes the 459.00 SERT, and all labor. I would double check the price they gave you to be sure.
I took delivery on an '08 Ultra last Friday. In the packet they gave me was a HD coupon stating that any HD items installed by the dealer within 60 days of the dateof purchase would be covered by the 2 yr. unlimited mileage warranty. They do have to be installed by the dealer that sold me the bike.
only the items with the green light by them in the catalog. the other items state not for street use and are not covered by warranty even if installed by a dealer.
As for a 2008 Thundermax, contact Zippers directly--they may not want the liability involved with the ECM controlled throttle that will be needed to replace the stock ECM.
As for the 103, check the hp/torque figures in the HD catalog for what you can expect performance-wise. Given that you already have the longer stroke in the 96 compared to the 88, and the relatively mild cam/piston combination offered, it would not be worth $2300 TO ME to make the change.
