Default Add ons at purchase

I pickup my 2008 RG Saturday and I am looking to have slip-on rineharts, SE Filter, and Race tuner installed before I pickup. Now dealer says that whatever I have installed before time of pickup the warranty covers if something goes wrong during my extended warranty period ? Is this true and also...... I read somewhere that you should wait until you have 1000 miles on the bike before you do any add-ons like this for proper break in.

I am nervous about what can be installed and not cancel my warranty as it is.

any help would be great.

Thanks
Monte

I would wait until 1000 miles for your dyno with your race tuner. Other than that, you can have everything else installed before 1000 miles. The dealer should cover everything they installed for the extent of your warranty. Add on parts are included in that as long as they are HD parts. If you look in your manual they have a card in there saying that. You even have 60 days after your bike purchase to buy HD items from the dealer that you bought the bike from to have them installed and those would also be covered for the extent of the warranty instead of just 60 days. That card is in the manual as well. At least it was in mine.

None of that will effect breaking in the motor. They shouldn't put it on the dyno to tune though until you've broken it in. Some dealers don't like to put the add on's on just in case there is an early problem during break in. If it's still stock they don't have to worry about any "issues". If your dealer is ready to do it now, then they'll cover you if there is a problem.

Unless you are trying to rollthe warranty into your financing, I'd suggest waiting. You can buy it at anytime and the standard factory warranty will cover you for the first two years. If anything is going to fail, it usually happens pretty quick and you'll be covered by the standard warranty. After two years you will either already made additional mods or will want too. Then at that time you can decide if you want the extended warranty or not.

Search the threads here on the extended warranty. What you read about them might just scare you off.

Again, just a suggestion.

I have a SERT installed, stage 1 air cleaner and pipes installed before I left the dealership. They put a generic (sp) down load in the SERT for break in purposes, then I come back after break in, then they will dyno tune it properly.

BS! There are a lot of things you can do to your bike after purchase that won't void your warranty. I suggest break that puppy in with 500 miles. Ain't gonna take long....2 days tops???!! Then install the rest urself and buy some goodies with the $$ saved. Thay are JUST looking to get ur $$$$$

NO NOT TRUE - HD WILL NOT WARRANTY AFTERMARKET PARTS INSTALLED (RINEHARTS) - AS FAR AS HD KILLING YOUR WARRANTY - YOU'RE SAFE AS THEY HAVE TO PROVE THE FAILURE OF THE PART INSTALLED (AFTERMERKET) CAUSED THE FAILURE...

Do the stage 1 now, the dealer will just put a standard download in the SERT and then do the dyno tune at your first oil change. That's how I did it and it worked great.

+1
They have a list I believe of what's allowed or approved.
WARRANTY Installation of Screamin’ Eagle® products, and similar off-road or
competition products from other manufacturers, except some street-legal
offerings installed by authorized Harley
ÂŽ dealers, may void your H-DÂŽ limited
vehicle warranty.
I know the V&H's TD and BUB 7 TD made the list. I would think the Rinehart Slip-ons would as well.
Here's another link that seems to support the quote above and a great read as well. Lots of info here.
Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle Warranty Issues
It seems that many riders believe that using Screamin' Eagle performance upgrades have no effect on their HD Warranty. Despite what the local HD Dealer may tell them, only HD parts that are listed in the 2007 Catalog with a "green light" designation can be installed on their bikes without having a negative effect on the warranty. This means that most Screamin' Eagle components will void the warranty on much of the engine.
While in some cases your local HD Dealer can "sneak" a warranty issue through Harley's process as a courtesy to its own customers, it is highly unlikely that another Dealer will extend the same courtesy.
No matter what your local Dealer may tell you, the explanation of the warranty listed above is an honest interpretation of how Harley-Davidson is now enforcing its warranty.
As for the Magnuson Act or what ever it's called (Half *** Consumer Protection)........ Do you think that as big as MOCO is that they would leave themselves that wide open to litigation??? I'm sure they've got their a$$ covered. Besides...it's not the dealers that really decide when something big goes bang....Way higher up the food chain.
[left] txbanshee...I'm sure that everything you've listed should be fine. As HarleyNewbie stated, within the first 60 days it should be covered under the term...
