If you need the fork seals changed do a search on the forum and look for replacement of the sliders info....
its quite simple and you can leave the forks in the bike and remove just the sliders only...
when you do this be sure to add a fluid that is heavier then the standard fluid...Might just like the firmer front end feel...
FWIW...I don't believe that any sqeeking would come from a piece of rubber seal though...
Check your neck bearing and grease accordingly
Ill bet I know what that squeak is. I had one in my front end on my 92 FLHTP. Look where your speedometer cable comes up through the metal guide on your front fender. Thats where my squeak was.
ORIGINAL: Ultra RB
1999 Ultra, I have a squeak in my front fork area every time I go over a bump, it's driving me nuts.
Would a worn or defective fork seal cause that?
I think a bad seal(s) would just leak.
Sounds like it would be a metal to metal issue.
Ifyou sit on the bike with the front brake applied and push up anddown on the forks,do you hear the sound.
Could be external sheet metal, fork springs/dampening rod, loose caliper.
You have to track it down.
IIll put my money on what i posted before. the covering on the speedo cable wears off from it rubbing in that metal guide. Thus giving u that metal to metal rub. When it did it on mine. Just holding the front brake on and pouncing on the front end didnt make the squeak. Ya had to ride it and when ya hit a bump. Thats when it sounded off. It really drove me nutz for awhile. i sliced a rubber O ring grommet and sliped it in the metal ring and that was the end of that squeak.

I'd like to tell you that was it but I checked and it isn't worn. I will tape it for a ride though and see.
If anybody can figure this out, let me know. My 1988 FLHS has been squeaking for years. I rebuilt the forks once and cured the squeak for about 2 months. Then it came right back. They squeak louder when cold. I'm so used to it now, I hardly even notice.[&:]
I just figured out what was squeaking whenever I hit a bump. The front fender itself shifts and squeaks if the bolts are loose. The key clue was that it didn't squeak when I held the brake and pushed down on the front forks. Has been driving me crazy for months.
