Default 99 Ultra weaving problem

Just bought 99 Ultra a couple months ago and at first I didn't nitice it. Bt now I can feel the bike just dosen't want to go straight. I replaced the tires, checked wheel bearing, steering bearings are set good. Is there something else I can check? This thing rides like I am always on a grooved road. More pronounced at higher speeds 50+ mph. Does not change power on or off. I did feel it before I put new tires on and hoped they would solve problem but actually it is now more pronounced. Any ideas would be apreciated.

Make sure the tires were mounted with the direction arrow going the proper way. They are directional tires.

Checked tires, pressure is correct and arrows point in direction of rotation. Retorqued axle nuts and rear tire alignment. I was looking at the shop manual about engine alignment and it looks like quite a chore to go through all the steps. I'll have to fabricate some stuff to make that one happen. Any idea what the dealership would want to do that check for me (hours of labor)? I stopped by my preferred daler Saturday and all they wanted to do was sell me a 20K service ($799.00+) and they would look at the handling problem while they had it in the shop. They want to charge an extra 3 hours labor cause I have a lot of extra chrome on the machine(front rotor covers and rear double stacked light bar). Not trying to be cheap, just trying to keep it reasonable on the blue collar level income bracket.

One would think if it's an alignment problem, your bike would pull one way or the other. Since it's not doing that, my guess is your steering head bearings. How did you check them? How many miles on the bike? Are the shocks/springs in good shape (again, mileage dependent)?

Just a thought, if you have spoke wheels, make sure they are running true and not loose spokes. check the head bearings too..there are plenty of strings here on forum on that. oh yea, go to a different dealer next time.. anytime someone tries to sell ya something without looking into original complaint first, they are thieves..

I second that opinion......definately check the swing arm bearings/bushings. They are know to turn turn to crap or even be loose over time. I've seen many low mileage models with this problem...including my Electra Glides.

Good thoughts, too. Again, curious as to the mileage.

The bike has 22k with cast wheels. When I had the rear wheel off I checked the swing arm for play and didn't notice any thing unusual, but i did not disconnect the shocks. This weekend I pland on a tear down for the full 20K service and do all the bearings. Might take me a week or two. Guess I'll have to pull the Sportie out of moth ***** and for a while. Going to pull the front end off and give the bearings and races a good look at, same with swing arm. Probably put new busings in while I have it apart. Thanks for your input all.
