New to owning a HD and bought the 2008 Electra Glide Classic. Well the first thing I noticed is my inner thighs were getting pretty hot since I do live in Florida.
So I do some research on saddle shields and order these.....
Get them and began to take them and try to fit them to the bike. The Tank is secured by 2 torx head nuts exactly where the kit is to install. However, the shields are plastic like and in order for me to install them I either have to drill out the holes where the bolts go so I can put in a rubber nut insert or dremel off some of the shield itself and make it fit...Either way I think it is not a good idea to drill a hole in a new bike nor is it a good idea to alter a part that does n't fit correctly. I'm thinking that for 2008 there must have been a difference over 2007 and the Kuri's won't fit.
What would you do?
Options.
order the rjs originals but I don't see anything for 2008.
send the kuri's back and go to HD to purchase.
get with RJ at http://www.rjsoriginals.com/and have him build you a set. They work great, look good and are easy to install. Lots of satisified customers, do a search here on the forum and you will see. Plus RJ is a stand-up guy, fellow biker and forum sponsor, who gives you personal service (expect him to call you to ensure you are happy with his product). He is what most retailers ought to be: focused on customer service.
The company I bought the Kuri's from said (PAIR) Fits '97-UP Dressers and Road Kings ....
I'll try and get them to take them back and I've read a lot about the RJS original and their website says something about the material they use is back ordered.
Looks like from everything I read the RJS are the best!
RJs are the way to go. American made with American parts by an American Vet,. May be the ONLY thing on my Harley that can claim that! And they work as good as they look!
I bought the Saddle Shieldsfor an '07 Ultra. I read the installation instructions online BEFORE purchase, thinking I knew what I was geting into. So, when I received the product, I removed the bags, sidecovers and seat and found that the front mouting holes (both sides) were under a plastic box channel through which the entire bike's electric systemruns. That part wasn't mentioned in the instructions. Dealer said they would charge 1.5 hrs labor to finish the installation.
I called Kuryakyn to return them and they made me talk to a tech guy before they would issue a RTA. This gentleman told me to loosen the tank and that would make it easier to slide the box channel over to get to the holes. I briefly considered this but ultimately returned the product due to failure to fully disclose the complete installation prior to purchase.
If you think you can go to all this effort, I think they are far better looking than the HD alternative, but to me, not worth the additional effort.
