I have a bad back, but love riding my `02 Ultra. I'm looking for a driver's backrestthat gives goodsupport for the driver, butfolds forward to allow easier access fora passenger to get on. I quickly checked the H-D website but didn't see any.Anyone know where I should look? Thanks.
I have this one on mine. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
Not as adjustable as the adjustable rider backrest , but once you find the adjustment , you're good to go.
Took me twice to find the right setback , but after that I love it.
Folds forward so the passenger can get on and off easier.
There's a bunch of different vinyl styles depending on your seat style.

I got an adjustable backrest for my 06 Road King from Lake Shore Harley on Ebay about 2 weeks ago, installed it myself...then went on a IBA Saddle Sore 1000 run. When I got back home, I told my wife that my back actually feels better after the ride than before I left.
I paid about $255.00 for the backrest shipped to my door.
I was glad I got the adjustable rest, It was easy to adjust while riding. I re-adjusted thebackrest while riding during the 1000 miler a couple of times.
After the run, my A$$ hurt for a couple of days...but my back was fine.
HD makes 2 different Drivers Backrest these both fold forward to passanger access...
Mustang also makes a Backrest that can be used with the HD OEM seat
I dont have a bad back, but I do have a backrest, and I absolutely love it. I just bought a Mustang seat from a forum member, and now I have to change my backrest to match. and the Passenger one as well, anybody have the smooth Mustang backrest that wanna trade for the stock Factory Pillow ones????????????????????????? God I'm never gonna get off my bike if I keep making all these improvments. Happy Backrest Rider.
I just installed the backrest that Mick has linked to above. It is super but I do have a bad back and need for the backrest to lean back a little further (yes my wife will still fit in there)...anyone tried to bend the uprights to get a little more rearward lean? I installed it on the bracket as far as it woudl go back...its just a need a little more for the back!
What I ended up with - comfortable and gives passenger room. Screamin' EagleÂŽ Electra GlideÂŽ Rider Backrest Kit- 52695-04 Styled to match the '04 Screamin' EagleÂŽ Electra GlideÂŽ Low-Profile Seat, this backrest features an adjustable support bracket with four mounting hole locations to accommodate different riding positions. Backrest can be quickly removed for storage in Tour-PakÂŽ or saddlebag. Thin profile allows additional passenger.
to lean mine back further... I did 2 things.
1. Installed a longer screw in the frame mount and placed and 1/4" thick spacer to sit the front of the backrest mount a little higher.
2. I placed the uprights in a vice, heated w/ a torch, and bent back as far as i needed
I'm 6'5 so i wanted it to lean pretty good... lucky for me my wife is tiny... but just to giver her additional room i just ordered a tourpak relocator kit off George Anderson for $130
