I just called the dealer and said DON'T do the heads. Instead I am switching out my SE 203 cam for an Andrews 37G.
Now don't change my mind again! [:@]
Good move....just keep compression ratio under 10 to 1.
This is same cam I used and it worked great untill I raised my compression to 10 and 1/4 to 1. Then it pinged. Cam works great otherwise. In my opinion it's the best cam out there. The gear drive qets quieter after you get some miles on it. I at first didn't like it but it quieted down and now it is fine. One more suggestion if you have the money is to put in a Fueling oil pump at the same time. Additional labor is minimal being you are already in there. It will make engine live longer and makes bike run a little cooler.

Also, how long did it take for the gear drive to quiet down? And what kind of noise? Loud, clanking? I sure hope not!
Gear drive cams make some gear noise that you will hear, kinda a whirring noise. Once the gears broke in to each other they quieted down some. I can mostly hear at low / idle speeds. Fueling oil pumps improve oil flow dramaticly through out the engine and therefore increase engine life. Some guys swear they gain a couple of horsepower due to cooler running engine. I did not notice any more power. I dynod after install but I changed cam at same time. Running this pump I do not plan on running an oil cooler which are prone to leaks. I swapped from Andrews 37 cam to Andrews 31 cam only to get rid of pinging. My motor has 10 1/4 to 1 compression. The compression jumped up to this from 9 1/2 to 1 because I added S.E.Performance heads. It made 89 horse and 103 torque with the 37 cam. Now it is making 96 horse and 96 torque with no pinging.
I am not un-happy with gear drive cam...no cam shoes to stress over!
I say go for some head work. I'm running an Andrews 37G, fueling oil pump, fueling lifters, S&S adjustable pushrods, 95 pistons, and a custom porting job on the heads. PCIIIusb for tuning. Compression ratio is 9.7. I had my jugs bored to fit the flat top Wiseco pistons. My dyno numbers are 94hp/99tq. The cam kicks in around 2200rpms. Total cost parts/labor was around 3,200.00, and the bike was only down a day and a half. (I collected parts for this build for about 6 months).
My goal was not to have the hottest running bike, but rather to be able to keep up with others who have built their engines. Running in a group on the backroads, and passing vehicles, I find myself pushing the bikes in front of me when passing.
I wonder why one of you got pinging with high compression and the 37G, and one of you didn't!
The key is to keep it UNDER 10 to 1 on the compression ratio. I could of backed out timing with my S.E.Race Tuner but doing that would of cut power. The quality of fuel varies termindiously from one area to the next. Per Andrews Tech Department aka Ralph, he says not to use 37 above 10 to 1, to go with 31. I swapped to 31 and am glad I did. I don't want to be dealing with octane boost etc. Bike picked up power and fuel is not an issue. I could easily get over 100h.p./100torque with a exhaust change from my S.E.Touring Performance slip on mufflers, but I like the look and sound. My heads are box stock out of the box S.E.Performance heads and I used Cometic .030 head gaskets. Bike is 2005 injected Electra Glide. I also used the Fueling lifters.
Keep the compression down and use the 37 cam, makes good power without the fuel quality issues. If you go higher on compression use the 31. If I had to do over I would not of raised compression ratio. As it is I am very happy with power and final result.
