Default Help with locking fork switch

07 Street Glide, I replaced the inner fairing today. I followed other post here about removing the fork locking switch. When I replaced everything
the forks will not lock. Any help would be appreciated. Do I have to worry about the possibility of it locking while riding, is it possible
the lock is floating somewhere and will engage on the road, locking the forks? Thanks

I highly recommend you get your bike to your dealer asap - something's amiss - potentially a dangerous situation.

Maybe what you can do is remove it again and then reinstall it again.
This is a pretty good explanation .

When it's right , it's right.
Just be patient and methodical while doing it.
Don't run it until it feels and operates correctly.

When you put the shaft in that will turn the mechanism you will find that there is a part you can turn up top and a part lower down. Mess around with it until you get them aligned correctly. I moved my bars back this weekend and screwed mine up. It took a little bit to get it right but it is right now. I didn't have to use a large screw driver like some say you have to. If I remember correctly it was the upper part I had turned a quarter off and had to turn back. I may be mistaken. I just played with it until it was right.

When you install the key and turn counter clockwise the key should TURN past alignment position by about 45 degrees. If you looked inside the swithch and have the key rotated where it should be, the aligning tab will be fully retracted.

Got it guys. Pulled everything back apart and fiddled with the plunger. Works great now.

Thanks for all the replies, new here and really have enjoyed the reading.

New Harley owner, sold 00 Kawa 1500 for a Street Glide. Absolutely love it!

Thanks

Two things;

1. One side of the shaft has a square protrusion where as the other side is dovetailed.
2. Cut down a piece of a yard stick or paint paddle to use as an alignment tool.
