Default Please Help Forks are locked

I am in the process of putting my bike back together from painting the inner fairing. I have a fairly big issue now. My forks are lock and i was trying to put the fairing cap back on. The manual said to turn the forks to left and i did, so now they are locked and of course the **** is off as well. How do i unlock them with out having the turn **** all put back together.
Thanks Jason

Been there!

Put the ignition *** back in without the switch cap and unlock it, it's the only way I know of.

EDIT: Good luck and take your time with it.

Look at the shaft on the ignition switch part you removed. See the 2 flat tabs, 1 on the bottom and one 1/2 way up. Now look down the hole on the bike. See the 2 areas that the flat tabs on the shaft line up with. They look kind of like old fashioned skeleton keyholes. Top is the electrical part and bottom is the fork lock. Make sure they are lined back up when you put the shaft back in. Harley also makes a tool to do this, but if you are careful you can do it with a small screwdriver

Just put a straight slot screw driver down the Hole and Turn it to get it out of Lock.

It wasn't that easy for me, in fact it was a real pain, but it can be done.

I used a small screw flat when I did mine to service it. It is not a bat, wing, but should be the same set up. Just take a little time. I left the screw driver in just in case.

Talking thanks

I finally figured it out. I took out the to screws on the side of the whole **** housing and lifted it up about a 1/4 of a inch not even that and the lock released. I tried everything else that you all said and just could not make it work. I just glad that's over with! lol

HA! HA, I say. HA! I did the same thing, following exactly what the manual says. It never says you have to unlock the forks to complete the removal of the fairing.

Now that someone else has done this, I know I'm not going crazy.
