JBLs
Here's my take on the J&M's I just installed on my RG. The sound quality (to my untrained ear) is about the same as the stock speakers when I listen to it in the garage. However, when I get out on the highway, the J&M's don't take as much volume to hear at 75mph. Again, this is to my untrained ear. So in my opinion, I think the J&M's sound better at speed than stock. How much better is too difficult to say.
there is no question the J&M speakers are putting more sound out to your ears, whether sitting still or on the highway ,,,,,, I can hear it, (and I am old and fat)) my R&D shop guys can hear it ,,,, it is real, with the J&M speakers there is more sound air pressure getting to your ear than with the stock speakers OR the JBL's ,,,, this is not something I am making up just to sell speakers ,,,,,,,
I am going to try again to post our tests results with photos ,,, I had trouble the first time ,,,,,
Forum Members ,,,,,
in the J&M Corporation R&D shop today we compared side-by-side the JBL GTO527speakers against the stock Harley speakers from a 2008 Ultra Classic that I just took delivery of last Friday ,,,,
we did this in the speaker J&M comparison board shown here with a switch so we could switch back and forth between the two sets, using the same audio source to get an exact comparison ,,,,,
in this box these two different speakers sounded pretty close to the same, with the edge going to the stock Harley speakers as theyput out a little more sound, especially in the midrange frequencies ,,,,
then we listened to the stock Harley speakers playing at maximum volume in our shop mounted in a 2008 Ultra and made notes of how they sounded ,,,,,
then we installed the JBL GTO527 speakers in my new 2008 and made notes as to how they sounded ,,,,,
then we installed the J&M #HCUS-06GT speakers in the faring of my new 2008 Ultra and again played them at max volume in our shop with the exact same track of music on the exact same CD as used for the previous speakers ,,,,,
Each time we installed the various brand speakers we put the fairing all back together so that we were comparing apples to apples ,,,,,

the JBLâs and the Harley speakers mounted in the bike sounded pretty close, with the edge again going to the stock Harley speakers ,,,,,
but the J&Mâs really did beat the snot out of both of them, not only were the J&Mâs a lot louder at max volume, but they put out significantly more sound overall, better midrange and tighter bass response than either the JBLâs or the stock 2008 Harley speakers ,,,,,
[font="times new roman"][size=3]those of you who think I might have other motives for doing this test,,,, well, just keep on thinking that ,,,,, but believe me when I tell you

You could theorhetically (sp) do sine-wave testing with the various speakers, but ah have a feeling after talkin' with John that it'd still be a somewhat subjective bag of results, given the platforms they are tested on. Likely the best thing ta do is find folks with 'em an' compare 'em against another fer yerselves - because each of us will have differin' aural capabilities as well. Harley Rulz - that wuz aURal, ya perv....

One thing ah WILL tell ya - John will stand behind hiz stuff an' do hiz level best for all of us given half a chance. Ah've known him fer over a decade, an' have seen him bust hiz butt ta help folks out an' resolve questions/issues time after time.
In the interest of full disclosure, J&M has sent me various components ta test/evaluate over the years, but ALWAYS with the understanding that ah'm free to give mah opinion about 'em without edit or consultation. An' ah think most of ya have figgered out by now that ah call 'em lahk ah see 'em...
Ah installed the J&\\;M's in mah '07 UC a coupla months ago, an' yeah - they are DEFINITELY louder, with no distortion apparent to mah ear. \\; Everyone that's listened to 'em have been as impressed as I with their sound capabilities. \\;

Up until about a week ago I would have ageed with Tex about J&\\;M standing behind their products. \\; They have in the past when I had issues with a headset cord on my old Goldwing. \\; I sent them the old one and they sent me a new one free no questions asked. \\; Well last week my buddy called and asked if I would put his stock speakers back in his 07 SG because the one of the J&\\;M's had gone bad. \\; His words were "blown out". He said he called J&\\;M and they said there was only a 90 day warranty and his were about 9/10 months old.. I feel kinda bad cuz I steered him towards J&\\;M because of both quality AND customer service. \\; He probably won"t be asking my advice again
Yes you have a GOOD PRODUCT but I think its Very Poor Business to jump in as much as you do.

JMJohn - why did you not test against HOGTUNES speakers also? I am interested in both yours and Hogtunes - and would like to see a SUBJECTIVE test....

From 1 of the 2 manufacturers?

That'd be about like asking Van Camps to test their pork 'n beans against Campbell's...and asking for the results of which bean created the best fart!
