i switched my engine oil to 20-50 amsoil...i am thinking about putting it in all 3 holes that way on trips you only need to care on type of fluid for all 3...on the other hand i was thinking of useing the 75-90 amsoil in the trans...to try & make it a little quiter....but from what amsoil says if use the 75-90 in the trans you have to use 10-40 in the primary....was woundering the pros & cons from some of you who are useing amsoil & the combo you are useing & why you chose it..thanks..
20/50 is too thin for the tranny. AMSoil SVG is A-OK for Tranny, MCV in crankcase.
I ran the MCV in my primary for a while, but it tends to leak thru the outer primary gasket. Switched to HD Formula+ in primary & no more leak.... even w/the same gasket.

Have never had to add oil to my primary or tranny. They don't use up any unless you have a leak.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Heck, I don't even have to worry about adding any motor oilbetween changes even with 68k on my bike. If I did, I wouldn't sweat it. I'd just get a quart of good 20w-50 and top it off.
I asked my Amsoil rep about what to use in the transmission. There was a posting in this forum stating that HD would void the warrenty if anything above 50W is used. My dealer put Syn3 in the transmission at one thousand miles. Anyway Amsoil rep emailed back that for the 07 use 20-50W. I checked on their website and it stated that 50W motor oil is equivalent to 90W gear oil.
I use amsoil 20w-50 for the engine. 75w-90 for the trans. I had 20w-50 in the primary, but had a leak at the drain plug ( I f'ed up the o ring), I was heading for a ride and had to use formula+ instead. All three work fine, no problem. The primary does not need a synthetic oil, but you should be fine if you want to spend the money for it. Amsoil also recently (the rep said) came out with a 75w-110 for the transmission. A medium between the 75w-140 and the 75w-90 (I use). He said it was what they were recommending for the '07 and up bikes. I haven't tried it, and don't know of anyone else that has.
BTW, unless MoCo supplies the oil you use, they can not void your warranty for using what you want. Provided it is of the same grade as they recommend.
