Someone a while back posted how the fuel tank was making girgling noises when the fuel pump came on and shut down with the switch. The response was something about a hose inside the tank. Does anyone remember that post or date it was.I heard mine making some wild noises and I think it has the same thing going on.
Thanks
Can't find the post as I forgot what the title was, but there is a hose that attaches to the fuel pump inside the tank and it gets worn on the inside of the tank and will oftentimes get a pinsize hole that pressurized fuel will shoot out of. I experienced this with my 02 fatboy and replacing the hose fixed it. Look in your manual at the fuel pump setup and you will see what it is. Simple fix, jsut replace that hose in the tank...
I would imagine that it all depends on the level of fuel in you tank. If the fuel is above the hole in the line all will be pretty much okay, but if it is below the hole it will act strange, so the answer is yes. I can't remember what it was that my bike was doing when the fuel got below the hole but it was acting strange...
If the hose in the tank is the problem , it can be checked with a fuel pressure test. If the pressure is low most likely it is a hole in the hose. You could get a gurgling, hissing type sound when it perforates. The new replacement hose is a bit shorter than the original one is. Some slit the original hose and wrap it around the replacement hose held in place with nylon cable ties to protect it..
The bike will run poorly, stumble, surgeand sometimes pop more on decel when the hose is perforated, usually at half tank or less but not always. Hard starting is a possibility too caused by the low fuel pressure to the injectors.
pony up $135.00 if your bringing it to the dealer for this repair, had this done at11,097 miles on my 04 EG police, they replaced all the gaskets and bolts when they did the job too, never any problems with leaks after, but fuel gauge was only reading 1/2 when full, they recalibrated it for free. check yours before you leave the dealership.
