I have 18" LA Chopper bars on my rk custom, and these don't look any different than mine. I love my bars. One thing, though. With 18" apes in line with the forks put me in an awkward position, and had me putting to much pressure on my wife (when riding). I pushed mine forward, and now all is well. Unfortunately, with a fairing, you will not have that option. I hope it works out for your buddy, and my apes are the most comfortable addition to my bike. BTW, being that the apes are so tall. Your buddy might have issues with the bars moving back toward him, if he hits a good size bump, or pulls back to hard on the bars. I will remedy this this winter by drilling a couple holes in the one piece top clamp, tapping them and installing two set screws. This should add the extra support, so they wont shift back. Since you are doing the install, and have been warned about this, you guys might want to drill and tap the top clamp while you have it apart, to save yourselves from having to pull it apart later. IMO.
Good luck with the install, apes are great.

They ones in the picture on the link he posted are not in line with the forks and look to be at the same angle as yours. My friend has LA chopper 14" and the back bend at the bottom set the uprights at least half as far back as the cyclesmith ape's bends.

Thanks for the heads up! And he has this one set up solo, he bought a corbin seat, and back rest when we were in Sturgis this year.

Apes are extremely comfortable...i'm about a week on the new bike with them and can't believe what a difference. True, they may pull back on big bumps or on heavy take off, but just push forward again.

You are correct, my friend. I guess I didn't look closely enough at the pics. I have a heck of a time getting my windsheild to fit with my apes pushed forward, only inline with the forks. I was even thinking of getting an aftermarket fairing, but was thinking it would not work, with the apes. Now I am curious. Do you think it would work? I have seen a couple windsheilds where it appears the mounting bracket is further away than mine is. Any idea how that is done? Or am I just seeing things again?

Look at the two pics in my sig. because they are the same bike. I used to have my apes perpendicular to the ground...thats where I liked them the most. I had to roll mine back a bit to put on the fairing you can see where they are in the pic with the fairing off. If I had my friends bars...your bars, then I bet I could get nearly perpendicular again for two reasons, first my bars are wild1's and they are the same width as my forks whereas my friends and I assume your are wider then your front forks that would allow more clearance of the fairing protrusion, and second, the slight back bend would pull them enough back to clear the bottom of the fairing....that is the closest point and the bars get further from the fairing as they go up.
