Like a lot of others I will be storing my RKfor the winter soon and am going to have an independant shop change the fluids. TheoneIgo tois 20mi. away so when I leave thereto ride it back home would I need to be concerned with any amount ofcontaminationin the new fluids that would have just been put in it?
Also, I was going to have themuse a 20W-50 dino mcl oilfor the engineinplace of theH-D synthetic that's in it now and change the filterthen when Spring arrives switch back to the synthetic engineoil again (you know just leave the cheaper oil in it for thewinter). Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
Why not change the filter with the oil and when spring comes, all you need to do is change the oil. Why leave a dirty filter on all winter that you're just going to change amyway?
I change mine at the end of fall, ride it home(15 miles), ride the same oil next spring until it's due for the next oil change. Why all the oil changing? AmI missing something?
I was planning on having the engineoilfilter changed next month when the tranny & primary fluidsare replacedas well as putting dino oil in theengine for the winter (cheaper),then in spring changing the filter again when the synthetic oil goes in the engine for the riding season, or will I be changing the oil filter one too many times here? I'm under the impression that dino and syn don't mix well together and there would still be residual oil in the filter during the change?
I guess what your saying is that when I change the engine oil and filterin the fall then it will still be Ok toride as isnext seasoneven after sitting thru the winter?
If that's the case then when I have the other two fluids changed Iwill replace the filter andengine oil with the synthetic at that timeas well, ride it home and store it in the shed for the winter then come spring just take it out and ride it like that. Sounds reasonable.
Its just a waste of money to change oil in the spring if you changed in the fall. The oil sitting in the bike is as good as new come spring. I've done this for a lot of years on every bike I've ever owned without any problems.
