I see on your sig you have SuperTrapp Se's on your '08 Ultra. Are you familiar with the old discontinued SE Performance one piece mufflers (64924-99). If you are familiar with them how do they compare sound wise. What's the p/n for the Supertrapp's you have on your current ride? Any info you can provide will be appreciated. Anyone else???
Any info you can provide will be much appreciated.
Just dropped my 08 off to the dealer for V&H true duals, Oval slip ons, SE AC Stage 1, SERT and 1k oil change over to synthetic. Believe this will take care ofsome if not most of the heat.
I moved from my 02 RK Classic to this new ride and I can't say that I wasn't surprised by hotter running but hell in traffic at Bike Week in Laconia, Itoasted the boys on the RK and shut her down several times while sitting in stop and go.
All I can say is that on yesterday's 200 mile ride in full leather with the tempin mid 60's, the heat was welcomed.
I did find that on the hotter days that the wind deflectors and opening the fairing vents solved most of the heat.
Hell, what can you expect with that big air cooled machine between your legs. I am one that is in the no bitchin club about the heat and I don't see a need for heat shields on my ride.
Did a 5 hour ride on Saturday. No problems with heat. Stock motor, no SERT or changes to airbox... RUSH slip on muffs. Ambient temps was mid 80's.
No toasted nuts. No pink meat. No problems. Just a great ride and enjoyed every minute of it.
RANT ON: Listen folks... we are riding motorcycles with large AIR COOLED engines. Common sense would dictate there will be heat from these beasts. My '05 Springer 88b generated plenty of warmth too. I don't find the heat from my '08 unreasonable. I think some folks just like to bitch and moan about anything and everything. Have fun, enjoy your Hog and quit worrying about everything. I've got friends with '07's too... they said their motors run hot, but not so hot that it's causing problems. RANT OFF.
I have heard that there is excessive heat problems with the 08's due to thembeing tuned so lean. I also hear that the passengers right foot gets baked. Anyone with a 08' have this problem.
I guess "excessive" is subjective. My '08 doesn't run any hotter than my '07 Heritage did. I rode it (the '08) through the 100 degree days this summer without any real discomfort.
I foundmy SERT really helps the heat issue. I had to tune the SERT a little further than the dealer did - the bike ran hot and pinged after their "tune". Now, I have virtually no pinging. Oil temps dropped from 260+ to 210 with SERT changes plus the addition of an oil cooler.
I will have the bike tuned at a differentshop sometime next year since my season is quickly running out here in NH, unless I feel I have made adequate progress on my own. I still need to test my tuning during summer heat.
Have an '08 Ultra with 1,000 miles on it, all stock. I ride in the Houston area and all my miles on the new bike have been in the 90's. I thought the first 100 miles were pretty hot when in traffic but not bad at all if you were 30 mph or more. The bike now runs quite a bit cooler and I just dropped it off for the 1,000 mile service, tru-duals, A/C, SERT and dyno. It should be even cooler when I get it back.
