i know this isnt what you are after but check out this web sight and see what you think.http://www.ronsmotorcycleradiosystems.com/index.html this is what i went with and it works great.i bought his box and speakers and used my own radio.i dont hear the best in the world and but i can hear the tunes with no problems.
the H-D fairings from the late 80s and early 90s are direct bolt on. just remove the acorn nuts where the quick detach shield mounts and install the fairing and nuts. less than 5 minutes. i bought mine last year for $200 delivered.
I Agree HuffHuff i bought mine off ebay. I bought a batwing and inner for about 200 and it bolted right up after i found the fairing brackets which i also got off ebay. so for a total of about 300 i got outer, inner, and brackets and love every min of it.
the older fairings have provisions for radio and speakers. a local rider has a 1983 ultra with that fairing. the radio is supported by rubber mounted brackets and the speakers mount using the holes that are in the front of the fairing on each side. i plugged those holes on mine..
As someone else said, just be patient and watch Craigslist and Ebay for a used or even better, a slightly damaged fairing. Get a Dragonfly or Hoppe, etc for top quality...then for the cost of some time to repair a little fiberglass and paint, you can come-out waaay ahead.
I found a Dragonfly with Kenwood/6x9 speakers/Satellite/power acc port, etc. that a guy had crashed...nose is cracked-up, but fiberglass work will take care of that...then paint/pinstripe and I'll have a top-of-the-line setup for less than $800 all-in that is like new and would cost $2,000 brand new.
The plastic cheap-os you see on Ebay from China (or wherever) may look "ok" but not sure. But the last thing I want is to put a s**tty piece on my bike - especially when it such a huge component of your ride that is so noticeable. That's just me.
I was looking at some of those "less expensive" ones on Ebay last summer. The ones I was looking at didn't look too bad.The had them for most harley models.Used the same quick release system as the windshield.Had the holes in them for the stereo and speakers or plain.Another one I saw at Bikes,Blues,&BBQ in Fayetteville,Ar last year was,Wide Open Custom Plastic,LLC.They make them for about anything.
