Always been convinced that the benefits of going synthetic were overblown. My approach has always been to change out the dino early and often. Heck, if my oil got even a little brown I figured I was on my azz. Well, I just changed over to Amsoil & Syn3. After about a hundred miles the difference is huge. I am very pleasantly surprised at the difference, especially since I wasn't really expecting anything at all. Shifts, heat, a general sense of smoothness, the exhaust note has even (seemingly) mellowed out. I am convinced, shoulda listened sooner. The SG is very happy!
During my latest cross-country ride I had the Amsoil dropped out of my engine and had it replaced at a Kansas HD dealers with HD 20w-50 'dino' along with a new filter. Why? Try locating somebody that sells Amsoil and then find some place to accomplish the change. My long haul tour bike will continue to use HD oil. By the way, I couldn't tell any difference in the running of the motor.

Yet another thread for the great oil debate. I am starting to change all my vehicles over to amsoil starting with my truck then the bike will get syn3 at 1k checkup (oh **** that is 2 more things that will get you slammed on here. syn3 and 1k checkup) after a few miles on the syn3 i will drop it for amsoil. I like that stuff and yes that is just my opnion. You will find every different opinion on this subject and some will hunt you down and sling dirty oil on you to drive their point across. In the end i think nobody produces oil to intentionaly screw up yo ****. Its all in what you like nowadays. All is good but i am glad to hear you noticed a difference there OldArmy.
Before this even gets started this was NOT a vote for any particular product, not an attempt to persuade anyone, certainly not throwing a turd in the punchbowl just to see what happens. Don't have a dog in the "my oil is better" fight. Now that I've seen personally what certain synthetics can do, I'll be trying others. Was just pleased and surprised to find out something new after I thought I had it all figured out. That's all folks!
I was running SYN 3 in the wifes Sporty. I changed everything to Red Line last change and did not tell her. Did not figure she would notice being female. To my surprise after the first ride she asked me what I did to her bike. She said " The shifting was sooo much smoother than before. When she notices something like that, there must be something to it. Made a real believer out of me.
Red Line Heavy Shockproof in my transmission really made mine quieter.
Thread dont hurt anyone, if you are not into oil threads ................... dont read em.
Replies like the one above add nothing to the forum. I sometimes feel like slating some of the posts I see here because I think the answer is so bl()()dy obvious, that a 5 year old could answer it, but I dont. If we scare folks away from asking dumb questions or makeing straightforward honest statements of their experieces then we all will lose something from this site.
