I'd just replace it with one withhiem joints. I just had mine go on my '06 RK at 18k miles. Luckily it must have broken as I was coming up my driveway the night before. Because when I went to leave for work that morning, it was just dangling there in the front. I was expecting it to break so I was carrying zip ties just in case. Change it and be done with it.
Thanks everybody for the help - that is what I love about this forum. Education at your fingertips. You could really get a Harley PhD online here
Got rid of the POS OEM aluminum pole with cheap *** ball joints. Man I have seen better parts on Walmart bicycles [:-][:-][:-]
This new shifting shaft with heim joints is TOP NOTCH on quality.EASY 15 minute install. Weighs about 5 times as much as the original setup and is about 1000 times as durable - this will NEVER break. And guess what - my rattle is gone too since this is so heavy compared to the aluminum stick with *****.
The new shaft is kinda pricey ($150 with HOG discount) - but now I have piece of mindand more chrome to boot
Once again, appreciate all the valuable tips/info above.
