Default '06 Speakers and Fork Locks

Hey All,

Just got a call from my dealer that my Street Glide's warranty work has been completed and she will be delivered back to my house on the 20th. It went in for a new inner fairing but I was also told that, "yes, the rattling from your fairing was the speakers; the magnets were bad." For those of you that don't know, I have been grousing about the rattling speakers for some time, and not to brag, but I did point the service department to the speakers after I did my own disassembly of the front end in September. If you are hearing rattles in the fairing of your stereo equipped '06 I would highly recommend having your speakers checked.

Also, as long as I had the service manager on the phone, I asked about the fork lock situation that I read so much about on this site. The technicians at this particular dealership are claiming that they are all failing from "operator error." I asked for details and it was explained to me that the trouble arises when the forks are not turned all the way to the left before attempting to lock them; the operator then "forces the issue and breaks the lock." I haven't had any trouble yet but the service department at my dealership has sent their bike hauler out "several" times to rescue bikes with this problem---all '06 touring models. Personally, I am having a hard time swallowing this explaination since it doesn't seem to be an issue on pre '06 bikes.

Hope some of you folks find this information helpful.

I'm not having any issues with my speakers, But I can tell you that my fork lock never worked from day one. Prior to recieving my street Glide I did a walk around and looked pretty hard, this was noted and a replacement was ordered and installed at a later date.

On the fork lock issue, are you pushing the lock down then turning the key to the lock position? It was my understanding 06 is the first year you had to push the lock down before being able to lock it. I'll confirm with one of our service writers tomorrow.

Hey Dave, you are correct. Steering to the left, (with key in place) push down on lock then turn to the left. This will put the steering into a locked position. My problem was that after turning the steering to the left and pushing down on the lock assembly it refused to go any further. (binding) I informed the dealer where I purchased my bike and it was quickly replaced with a new one.

One way to deal with those rattly HD speakers is to take them and throw them in the garbage and instal HOGTUNES speakes. Problem solved!
