Could it have something to do with riding style? I am curious, as I think it looks really clean, and was thinking about doing this. What about just shortening the bar to just beyond the rails?

I don't know, I live in Idaho (again) and do lots of riding in the twisties. Seems to me that if there was flexing going on back there, I would see some wear or stress around the rear fender mount holes. It makes sense that the bar adds to the frame, but I just never noticed any differance after taking it off....

I'm going to give another good going over then ride it some more. Pretty lousy roads here. I do understand that bar ties the two rear frame sections together but I still don't understand how this would affect the swing arm.

The only thing I can see that section of the frame doing is providing support for the fender, bags, and shocks and theoritically, there shouldn't be any side load there and it dang sure souldn't affect the swing arm unless that frame section is that flimsy.

Now if the swing arm/frame suffers from a poor design the shocks may actually provide some sort oflimit to side play because they endup acting as stiffeners to keep the side play down. That's a reach I know.

Now, it doesn't take much to give this particular bike the wobbles. If the tire pressure gets a little low or "any" get's slightly out of whack she will start to wobble. I addressed this about a month ago and she was going straight as an arrow.

I sure like the clean look. More testing/checking isin order.
I'll provide a follow up when I get time to do some more riding.

I may have something else going on then. I'm glad a couple others which removed it provided feedback as I may have been jumping to conclusions.

It wouldn't be so much swing arm flex as much as frame flexing from the pressure of the shocks. I would still think that after 4 years and 25K+ miles, something would show signs of wear.......Good luck with it!

As stated, many other variables could be contributing to the original posters issue.

I haven't riden it yet, but the front tire was down to 20 psi. and the back was 36 psi.

This could be the issue. Front must have a slow leak because I checked it about 7 to 10 days ago and "Assumed" it was okay. I usually run 35 in the front. Shocks were fine.

I have cut the bar off on my last 3 RK's and just did it on my 08 SG. Have never noticed and difference or problems at all.
