Hey Plow, Since, I can't ride here in Illinois, I decided to do this install myself. I ordered the IDS from "Z" and it should be in today. I've read that there isn't much to do this install and you've stated that it took about 5 hrs. but you could do it again in 2. I've recently completed a full V&H tru-dual install which I never did before and I've nevertaken a rear wheel off a bike before but I'm fairly handy with a wrench so i'm going to give it a try. So, my question to you is do you have any advice for me and are there any special tools that I would require to do this install? I have a nice J & S jack which I used for the exhaust replacement so I don't think that there will be aproblem lifting the bike. Thanks, Dog

I understand there are many manufacturers, I said we commonly call them Lovejoy.
Lovejoy is just one of many brands, but in our area is the most common one.
Some people never cease to amaze me about nitpicking little things.
But your first sentence is the most accurate!
well I don't have a BMW or a metric and I don't visit their sites, so would be pointless to do so.
I'm not really bashing the engineers, but rather HD itself.
The top where pass the buck stops. They are so intently worried about their own paycheck they don't care if they screw you over, by making a shoddy model (07 touring), then quietly do a running upgrade to fix their screwup, and then expect you to pay for the parts to fix yours.
Hey HD is not the only one that does this. In way or another entire corporate America does it.
But you folks that just roll over and willingly take it in the *** from them, just encourage them to keep doing it.
HD claims it's the "power pulses from the engine" causing the problem. Well if that is true how come it isn't apparent in other models and how come 01-06 people that upgraded to 95+ engine sizes don't have the problem too.
Why is it prevalent in only in the 07's with the "new" 6 speed and now apparently in the 08's so they installed the "fix" at the factory to prevent the complaints?
You all got a problem with your scoot from factory, you think should be fixed, stop rolling over and playing dead! And spending more money at the moco for the fix. The FTC and Congress GAVE you a means to fight back.
USE IT!!! You just might get the fix completely free. But you got to be willing to fight for your rights and satisfaction.
Stop being such pacifists!!

To begin with, '07 owners have a choice to install, or not install IDS. I didn't notice any problems with my '07 Ultra, but I had it installed anyway. Nobody's "rollin' over, getting "screwed", a "pacifist, .or taking it in the a**. I prefer to ride the bike, not go to court over trivial crap like this. Not a pacifist (and I resent your suggesting we all are), I just pick and choose when and where I want to fight. But I certainly respect your right to go for it! I mean, why waste the opportunity the FTC and Congress gave you. In the meantime, I'll be riding and enjoying, and praying someone put Prozac on their Christmas gift list for you. And if you decide to get this passionate about global warming.....I'll be right there with you.

Oh for heaven's sake. Recalls are for designed-in safety flaws. (NOT any design mistake) Warranties are for manufacturing defects of individual units. Lemon laws are for specific vehicles with chronic safety problems so you don't have to continue todrive an unsafe vehicle, despite the warranty.

The IDS is a design improvement for '08 that is fortunately available as an add-on to '07. Apparently it makes the ride smoother and (if you have noise issues, I don't) quieter. Get it if you want it.

Should Harley give it to us for free? No. As a business decision, they wouldn't do that unless a substantial number of people are dissatisfied with their '07 purchase. As vocal as some people are on this forum (even some people who HAVEN'T purchased an '07), the unhappy customers are a very small minority. I'm not saying they're wrong. I'm just stating the fact that they are a slim minority.

It just is what it is. You have 4 options:

1. Buy the IDS and complain about the price
2. Leave it alone and complain about the ride / noise
3. Leave it alone and be happy
4. Buy the IDS and be happy

Recite the serenity prayer to yourself a few times and pick one...

If it wasnt for the the so called FEW owners that ranted and raved thistopic wouldve carried over into the 08 lineup and HD wouldve had a bigger mess.We paid for the kit-big deal-but at least HD listened and responded. The whole thing dealt with in a better way may have had better results, maybe less hard feelings by some.By the number of post of those that installed these kits I would say it cured more than just a few bikes.

After reading some of the issues I can say my 07 EG Classic which is 5 months old with 10,800 trouble free miles is great, guy's and gal's the big twins are not supposed torollon from 2,000.rpm smoothlyshift up from a higher rpm, and everything is smoother, that said my new I know, I know , 08 Road glide will pull smoothly from 2000 rpms, after my delivery ride I returned to the shop and asked if the mapping was different on my new 08, its not,(read IDS ) that still is not a good practice . These bikes are a ball to ride, just sharing my thoughts.

Dog, the hardest part is the removal and reinstallation of the rear wheel, whichI tackledwiththe service manual.Bought a torque wrench and a socketfor the axle nut, and a belt tension gauge (HD-35381A)is definitely recommended. If you've got a digital camera, it might be helpful taking pics along the way to reference during reinstallation. Especially the location of thecam adjusters. The exploded diagrams in the service manual weren't showing everything I wanted to see, but there's enough inthemanualto get the job done. If you're handy with a wrench, you'll be able to knock this out in a couple of hours. Would love to hear your thoughts on the IDS performanceafter its installed and you've put some miles on the bike.

My next project is installation of the VRod engine mount in place of the stock one. Saw a post on here where someone said it reduced the vibes by 30%. I intend to find out.

Post the results of your IDS install when you get a chance.

My R1 made 165 to the back wheel and was fine, you won't have a problem

I've stayed out of these IDS threads for the most part. I do have a question about the part though. I realize it's not new and that metrics have used them for decades. How much power do you think can be put through one of these before it fails? A V-Rod makes over 100 hp, but very little tq and it's a light bike, so I don't think that's a fair comparison.

My RG will soon be sporting over 115hp and 120tq. Will one of these IDS systems handle all that in a fully loaded bagger?

I'm not really in the market for one as my '07 rides like a dream, with none of the problems some people complain of. Just curious how much power these IDS are capable of handling.

put the bearing in the freezer overnight and leave the hub out in the sun for a few hours or put it in a very low heated oven, it should drop right in...

Was thinking of installing but read there is a bearing that is difficult to press fit. Did you have any problems or any suggestions when doing the install?

Also yes you will need to check the rubber every couple years depending on how you ride.

doubtful, i don't think hd rushed this into production cause of the owners that ranted and raved about the 07s.

no, thats not what you said. if you want to talk about nitpicking little things, then this is what you said:

BTW in the field mechanic and machinery trades this is commonly called a LOVEJOY connector.

But I'm also here to prod you guys into standing up for your rights.
if we need help, we'll be sure and give you a call. in the meantime, you can take your jesse jackson/al sharpton self appointed a** out of here.

some folks have put ids on and been very happy. some folks have not put ids on and still been very happy. why can't you just leave them alone, the end result is that the majority of folks are happy.
