Re-pack -- who repacks ? If you really need to its one wrap of fiberglass batting and one bolt to remove the entire baffle. Five minute job every 4 years.
Cheers! So that whole "needing to work on the bike instead of riding it" is non-sense!
And Brewdog... I thought I had this all figured out until you mentioned those Rush pipes! Sh*t disturber! [sm=roll.gif] Now I am BIG time interested in these Rush pipes... especially considering the price point and good sound... I mean, I can pretty much do my entire Stage 1 with Rush pipes for the same price as just the Thunderheaders or Rineharts!
I'm BIG TIME confused. I am trying to make the most informed decision that I can regarding slip-ons for my bike. I have been on a couple of forums, spoke to connections at the HD dealership, spoke to friends, etc. As I mentioned before, I am looking for the best pipes considering the following: LOUD, deep throaty sound, good bark with thottle, and price point.I have narrowed it down to the following slip-ons:Rinehart: pros: I did hear them, and they are loud... sound the way that I want. cons: I have been told that the black tip will turn a reddish or purple colour over time. They are fairly expensive.Thunderheaders: pros: I have never heard them in person, but I am told that they are loud. cons: They are the most expensive... are you really getting the bang for the buck?Rush (2.5" baffles): pros: Great price point. I never heard them in person, but did check out the soundbytes on their website... they sound good. I have also heard that they are one of the least restrictive pipes. cons: Are they loud enough?Bassani: Just heard about these... they are expensive. Are they a good loud pipe that will give the best bang for the buck?Bub 7: I can't find anything on these pipes... almost like they are non-existent. Are they a good loud pipe that will give the best bang for the buck?D&D: I have heard that these are the way to go, but no one I have spoken with rides them. What I am looking for, in essence, is: WHICH PIPE WILL GIVE ME THE BEST BANG FOR MY BUCK? I WANT LOUD PIPES, AND DON'T MIND PAYING FOR THEM... BUT ARE THE RINEHARTS WORTH THE $200-$250 MORE OVER THE RUSH PIPES?
Loud pipes... (sigh) Wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper to get a good MP3 player with a recording of a really hot chick saying "oh, yes, you DO have a large *****".
I wanted anything louder than the stock mufflers (we are talking about mufflers here, not the pipes). Looked at the HD website and liked the look of the SE slip-ons. Price seemed about right. Went in after the first week with my bike for the 1k service. Asked parts guy for a set of the mufflers. He said they don't make them anymore. I said "just saw them on the website". He looked them up and said "oh, those. We aren't going to carry those; you wouldn't like them anyway. We have some Rush mufflers you'll like a lot better". We looked throughout the dealership and couldn't find a bike with them on for me to listen to. My salesman said they'd sound comparable to the older SE units on his bike outside so we went for a listen. I thought "okay, that'll do". Bought them, strapped the box to the back of my bike, took them home and stuck them on. At first I thought "OMG, what did I do?" Thought they might be a little too loud to be a responsible citizen. Asked nearly everyone I could for the first couple of days if they thought they were too loud. Nobody said they were. So here we are... They are the 2" mufflers and unless you're going to go with a fueler (good idea anyway) I sure wouldn't go any bigger than that. I think you'd lose a little too much bottom end if you went bigger in any event.
The Wild Pigs are supposed to be almost exactly the same thing, just built a little cheaper and the price reflects that. Why don't you just pick up a set of them and see how you like them? Couple hundred bucks for a yearlong experiment would be cheap enough in case you didn't like them 100%.
Glens & Brewdog... Well, I just bought a set of Rush slash-up slip-ons with2.5" baffles... bought them on eBay for $249, plus about $50 for shipping. Not a bad price at all. Hopefully I will like them... I better like 'em,or I'm gonna track you guys down! [sm=laughingsmilie.gif]
I'll let you know when I receive them and what I think...
Thanks for everyone for their input on this... I have learned a lot over the past 24hrs. Cheers, gang!
