SG Handlebars
Hey folks:
I'm new to this forum and I have an issue that I could use some input on...
I purchased an '07 Street Glide this July, (103 BB, SE AC, VH 2 to 1 ProComp exhaust), and I love it. I get this stupid grin on my face every timeI'm in the saddle. The only issue I haveis thatI getan unbelieveble upper back and neck ache after riding a couple hundred miles and it is because of the position of the stock Handlebars. I had a Heritage Softail B4 my SG and I like to put my feet on the HW pegs and lay back when I ride.
I knowit's becausemy arms arefully streached and I end upwith an extended reachfor my Grips when I'm in this riding position. I need to replace the Handlebars to a set that is more accomidating to my riding position. I need them to pull back more toward the rider but at the same height and wrist position as the stock bars. I wouldn't mind if they would be a little wider as well. I would prefer that they would not restricked my line of sight with my fairing mounted mirrors but would replace the fairing mounted mirrors to bar mounts if the new barswould get me the riding position I need.
I have talked with my local HD dealer about this and they have had several suggestions, one of which is to just lower the stock bars to bring them closer to the rider. I sat on a SG that had this done and it lowers the grips to a point that is too close to my legs and still does not bring them back far enough. They also suggested other bars but they have no way to set them up on a display so that I can get a feel for them. I don't want to spend the money on new bars and braided cables and find that it still isn't what I need.
Any Suggestions?

I have a Street Glide with Chubby Wild 1 bagger bars which to me are higher and wider but had to use bar mounted mirrors. They have the spread, rise, and pullback on their web site which I can not rember. They have a lot of pics on their web site.
cheaper to have your seat redone and moved forward an inch or so. After pricing out the bars, cables and labor it was way cheaper to do the seat, and I got to keep my fairing mounted mirrors. The SG being my first harley i didn't like the seating postion anyway I was use to a deeper bucket and lay backas you say.
Bruce, thanks for the input.
The issue I see occuring with this custom seat option is that moving my sitting position forward wouldalso slightlychange my leg position, put more bend at the kneeand I do not want to do that. But it is an option to consider.

I too have the same problem. I'm 6'1" tall and would like the bars to be a little father back. I've been thinking about getting another seat for touring and give the wife a little more room. I probably do the seat first and see how it works out before I purchase new bars. I caught between Sundowner, Corbin or Mustang. Those of you that have changed seats has it moved you forward?
