I just picked up a 1996 Ultra all original with 18,000 miles. The bike was bought new and serviced at the dealer where I got it and in great contition. The question is I would like some additional power. I am looking at exhaust and air clearner (combo that work well) are there any other "bolt-on" that can be done that will improve performance. Thanks for the help I am new to this.
Upgrade the aircleaner with a SE. This should be available with the K&N filter as it is for an EVO engine instead of a twin cam. Upgrade the mufflers. There are a lot of them out there, and most will give you about the same power increase. Just depends on what kind of sound you want.
I am betting that you have a carb on the 96 EVO, so you will need to have a little jetting done. My suggestion is one size larger on the slow jet, a 1988 Sportster needle, cut two coils off of the slide spring, and 2 to 2 1/2 turns out on the idle screw.
I have a friend with a 1996 EG Standard with about 70,000 miles on it, and it has been a good trouble free bike for him.
