Sidecars
I've picked out my sidecar....Freedom III......I've also read the thread posted by two people there. Damn they were at each other throats.I'd like to hear if anyone has used the freedom III on their touring bike.Answers should come from personal experiences please.
Sidecar make bike pull to the right or left on acceleration or braking?
Rear tire wear?
Need for reverse?
Will I need to beef up the motor?
What other factors should I consider?
Thanks
Yes, the bike pulls right or left depending whether you are accelerating or negatively accelerating.
Rear tire wear is more than a regular bike.
Depends on how strong your legs are. Normal legs should be OK, but if you have weakened legs you might want to add reverse.
No, a standard UC is adequate enough.
You should look into taking a safety course that offers sidecar training. In Washington if you take the safety course you don't have to test for a sidecar (motorcyles and trikes/sidecars are a different license). Sidecars and trikes are in their own class here. You need to know about flying the car, counter balancing, braking, accelerating, counter weighting an empty sidecar, etc. etc. etc.
Is the sidecar detachable (easy)?
You will want to check on insurance.
Get with someone that know sidecars are pick their brain for experiences yopu may meet in the future.
Where did you get the sidecar? Do they offer a short course?
Look into a cover for the sidecar. Sooner or later you're gonna want the best.
Once you figure this out (it is easier than it sounds), you are gonna love it.
Good luck and happy biking.
