Wow might have been a goodtime to change the lol. Be assured any one who has been to this thread will think twice about being in a hurry and using ramps. I'll bet you have allready saved a bike or 2 (long after the fact this might make me feel better). So glad to hear ya did'nt snap your friggen leg off at the ankel.
would have been a good time for a story about an attempted backflip. Bikes don't like to move from warm Texas weather to Idaho. Guess you'll have to ride it next time
one time, long ago....
i was working on putting a V8 into an S-10. I was standing on the passenger side fender & the front radiator support, using a big sledge hammer to pound a dent in the firewall at the rear of the engine compartment (making clearance for the distributor)
had a buddy helping (watching, like real buddies do....)
i got done, and just slung the sledge around behind me, and dropped it on the ground
we looked at it a second, i caught my breath, and just jumped backwards off the truck, and guess what i landed on?
the handle caught me right at the bottom of one buttock and slid all the way up. and the handle end was NOT smooth, it was rough cut. huge deep scrapes up the side of the ole tush.
i felt the same then as when i saw your pic of the bike.
my buddy was like "what...wha....whadda i do..."
i just told him "leave, leave, please leave, so i can cry in peace, i am embarased enough, i don't want you to see me cry"
it hurt SO MUCH, i actually tried to cry. laid there ~10 minutes just catching my breath.
i think he went in & looked out the window.
i feel your pain on the bike flip, but after all, they are just bikes, and they make more every day.
http://www.powerdecks.com/ I heard about someone being killed trying to ride a big bike onto a motorcycle trailer. About the same time my dad started talking about loading big bikes via ramp to flatbed 1-ton. I was able to convince him one trip to the emergency room could easily exceed the cost of one of these. He bought one and its a slick piece of equipment.
Been saving this for a while, it happened back in Aug right before moving back to Idaho from Texas. Quick version, I was rushing, riding the bike up a triple wide, arched ramp into the back of my 2wd GMC pick-m-up. I had done it before, I just was rushing. I was able to jump off the bike, it never hit me! Lucky for me there were a bunch of moving guys around to help me stand it back up. Shattered the windshield (a 4 in fastairone), broke 1 fairing mounted mirror, scrapped the inner and outer fairings (but not too bad). Scrapes on both saddlebag lids, tiny tear in the seat button and slightly bent the handle bars. Worst thing is a dent in the tank, there, but not terrible. Bottom line, cost me around $280 to get it back on the road looking good, got a $4200 check from the insurance co. Will be spending the money on the motor.......
Poor pic quality is from my cell phone. I was pissed at the time (who wouldn't be!), but just AMAZING how little damage there was.
You're a bigger man than me. It takes a real man to admit when he REALLY screwed up. Looks like you found a way to make a positive out of a negative. Good insurance!
