I used a set of Kuryakyn Burly Bars. They look very similar to the stock bars but pull back quite a bit farther and everything but the wiring reached.Anyone besides me ever notice that Harleys test riders must be related to a member of the ape family, the running boards are to close and the handlebars are to far away. That makes me think monkey.
What year is RK? You may have problems with 08 RK with the fly by wire throttle. I wanted to change mine out but have to wait for extensions to become available.

Couldn't have said it better. They surely aren't using average size for equipment locations are they. Of course one size for all would fit better if we had power seats and tilt wheels so I guess some of it just comes with the territory.
I'm wondering if someone who has installed the Heritage bars in place of the stock RK bars would post a pic. My '02 RK came with Beach bars and I don't like them at all and want toswitch to either theRK stock or Heritage bars like some have changed to.

I'm still not clear on the grips. Can they be removed and reused? Also, does each lever assembly just unbolt off the old bars and bolt on the new ones?
grips can't be reused, if they are the stock ones. The left grip is glued on. You have to cut it off. Perfect time to upgrade. The levers do just clamp on and off. Bars can be modified for 08's. Someone on here posted about that.

Actually, I disagree. I had no trouble removing the left grip by just twisting it. Just grab hard a twist, and it popped right off. Personally, though, I see no advantage to the stock grips. I hated mine and switched to kuryakyn pilot grips. Hopefully the last pair of grips I own.

Very often yesand yes. There's some glue under there but I heard of a trick(cut a coat-hanger,stick the end under the grip, roll it all the way around the bar by spinning it with your wrist, and bingo - breaks the bond and pull the grip off). Lever assemblies can stay the same too if you stick with the same diameter bar tubing. Cable and wiring length needs to be considered but if you don't change overall bar distances too much, you're probably good there toowitha bit of brake-line bending.
