I have also heard others say they used an air compressor, placed the nozzle under the grip (after removing the clutch perch) and blew air in there. Like I said, I just twisted mine off.
One of the first things I did to my 07 RK Custom was to change the bars....originally thought I wanted 16" Apes. In the end though I went with a set of Chubby Beach Bars.
The Chubby Beach bars are just a bit wider then the stock "beach" bars, and have much better lines. Took a few miles of getting used to but now I wouldn't have it any other way.
I've always used Wild1 bars, and think they are some of the best out there.
I was going to attempt to re-use the stock grips, have done this on previous bikes without to much trouble....turned out to be a big pain in the butt with this one, so I went with a set of Kury ISO Grips....w/the throttle boss.
Just replaced my bars on my 07 RK. I looked and measured and debated for weeks, and decided on the RK High handle bars part # 55954-00, Only took me an hour to do the swap and I was taking my time, only thing I had to do not mentioned in the service manual was tweak the break line.
I am 6 foot tall and it has made a world of difference in the bike, I have no more pain between my shoulders, and my right hand never gets numb now. Best money I have spent and it was less than $100 bucks.
Detro996...thanks muchly, that's what I wanted to see.

Your welcome, I had an 04 that I never made the switch on and when I bought the 07 it was done before I left the dealership. When I rode it for the first time I could not help but think about all those miles logged on the 04 with the stock bars. I was kicking myself for never having done it. I really don't understand why they don't put them on from the factory. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone say they liked the stock bars.
Firecap, Do you have any pics of your bike with the RK Hi Bars? I'm thinking thats the way to go but I haven't seen any bikes with them only Heritage bars. I have a RKClassic and I think the position of the grip is more like the stock bars.
