I found that using a rubber strap wrench works best for me. You are able to twist them and align them properly when intalling the new ones without any damage also.

When mine turn a light purple, they will actually match the "black cherry" color. And I had to post this because my last post was #666. Can't stay on that number too long...

Who do you call to get them replaced? Do the new ones change color too?
When you call the Bub-Rinehart customer service number, ask for Brad.

Start your bike up and let the exhaust warm up a bit. Use a rubber mallet and a pair of gloves and pull them off.

Tips are done...

I took the suggestions of riding the bike until it was warmed up then tapping them off with a rubber mallet. The strap wrench was also helpful in getting them to spin into proper postion for the screws.

I used sandpaper to clean off the ends of the baffles so they would slip easily back into the new tips.

Now to see if they will hold the black color and not turn purple again.

Thanks for the suggestions...

Alan

Is Bub replacing them in sets, even if one is still black and the other is purple? Or will you get charged for the return of the black one that has'nt turned purple yet?

ORIGINAL: rideon

I found that if you give em a couple wacks with a rubber mallet and then use one of those rubber strap wrenches that you use to remove oil filters they come off really easy. I figured this out from fiddling around for at least 1/2 hour till I grabbed the strap wrench out of the tool box. The wrench also makes it real easy to line up the holes, piece of cake.

Every set of those I have seen have turned purple. So when I ordered my set of pipes I also ordered the chrome end caps and I installed them left to right so it puts the Rinehardt name on the underside where it cannot be seen. I think the chrome caps look better to. Just my opinion of course. I just lent my black caps to a friend so he could get them chromed for his bike and not have any riding downtime.
