What is the difference between these shocks????....
54565-97B
54565-97C
As far as I know there is no difference, Harley changed
the OEM numbers (price is the same)
I found this on the net:
I had a pair of Road King air shocks, Showa 54565-97C on the tag. I went through a zillion suspension changes including using 1 " lowering blocks to get them to work. They did not have oil in the air chamber because it leaked out in shipping. I bought a second pair 54565-97A is on the tag, they work much better, no lowering block needed, down to 2 psi, don't bottom out, good dampening, but a little too much initial stiffness. They do have oil in the air chamber. The 97C shocks weighed 4 lbs, 10 and 12 ozs, the 97A shocks weighed 5 lbs 2 and 3 ozs. I assume the weight difference is the oil in the 97A shocks.

Anybody have any idea what the A and C mean at the end of the part numbers? Are they different applications? Evidently, not all RK air shocks are the same.Greetz Peter

The B is obsolete. Generally when they make some kind of improvement they change the suffix letter to the next letter of the alphabet. Don't know for sure what the change was, but for the most part they are the same shock

The"A" is the short or lowering shock that comes on the Street Glide/Road Kingand the "C" is found on the other touring bikes.

Still don't know the difference between the "B" and the "C" or what year that part number changed or why. I do believe they may be the same length.

i think you're wrong here. if it is the same number with a different suffix, then it means that the part has been updated somehow. if you look in the parts manual, the shorter shock (ie road king custom) is 54662-02A, while the regular touring shocks are 54565-97C.

hope this helps.
