Default Progressive shock differences

Is there that much of a difference between the 440's and the 940 series shocks? I know there are Ohlins and better shocks than the progs. Just asking is all. And is 5k miles alot on a shock or is there a ton of life left with only 5k? I saw some ebay listings is why I'm asking. Thanks all.

They'd be going on my 07 Cop King. I'm about 215 and ride mostly solo. But when the planets align and the wifey actually goes (which is rare) it's about another 140.

Five k is not a lot for used shocks. The 444's are full height as advertised. The 944's are sold as 13" but they sit at 12". The extra inch is in upward travel. Theoretically your bike sits lower but you still have the effect of the full 13" range.

Can't tell you the difference between the 444's and the 940's but I can tell you that going from the stock air shocks on '10 Steet Glide to the 940's was one of the best things I've done so far. I think you'll be happy with the change whichever way you go.

I wouldn't think that 5K is anything to worry about.

Default shocks

I put the progressive 940 on my 07' road king. One of the best mods I've done. The bike handles soooo much better.I couldn't beleave how crapy the stock air shocks were.

I have been looking at the Progressive 944's for my 2012 FLHX. This is with heavy duty springs which is intended for riding near or just under the bike's maximum payload capacity, as I have been told.
Speaking with Eastern Performance today, they told me that this shock with lighter springs, Standard Duty, are the new 945's.
Does anyone have any information or experience with 945's. I've searched and can't find any information on these.

No such thing as the 945 Progressive now makes the 944 in either 944-4002UT or the HD version 944-4020UT . the HD is for the same uses as all of their shocks designated HD for heavier loads, 2 up type riding etc. this is what the Progressive site states

"HD indicates that part numbers in this row are Heavy Duty applications for this bike model. Heavy Duty Applications are recommended for bikes that are operated at or near the manufacturer’s maximum load rating over 50% of the time."

Im running the 940 and I sent them in to have the lighter springs installed because they used to make all 940 as HD and it was to stiff for me at 210 lbs and riding solo. With the lighter spring rate (same as the standard 944) the shocks are great IMO . Big improvement over stock.

To the original post. the dampining action of either the 444 or the 944 is the same design its just the 944 as made to settle (sag) the top inch so in theory you get the up travel of a 13" shock, with out the height for looks.

Overall for the $ Im very happy with the improvement of the 940 and IMO the 944 is an even better shock

Thanks for the clarification!! I'm a lightweight at 165 and my GF about 125 and I ride 70% 2-up. From all that I've read, it seems I should go with the lighter "Standard Duty" spring.

I've been considering the 944s as well for my '12 FLHX, as I'm wholly unimpressed by the factory stock air shocks. I weigh 195lbs and 75% of the time it is me only. My wife rides with me the rest of the time, and weighs 135lbs. Standard duty 944's?
