I just installed the 944s standard springs on my 2014 Streetglide Special. I bought them because I wanted a smoother ride. I took the bike out for about an hour with my wife aboard and I think the ride is somewhat smoother. I didn't really notice any difference in handling and big bumps are still pretty harsh but we didn't bottom out. I had the preloads set with 4 grooves showing. My weight is 230, wife's is 170. I am surprised we had no bottoming out with the standard springs. I will keep them.
I just readjusted my 944 standard springs to the lightest setting possible. Anything more and it was still too stiff for my wife. It is the best now it ever has been. Bike actually floats now like it should. Should only get softer as they break in. Big bumps are still big bumps tho, and they suck. No getting around that.
