Bolted a set on my 2010 flhx and am disappointed. They ride harsh ( I weigh 200 lbs , solo rider) and yes the sag is adjusted right. My father has a set of 13 inch air shocks from an ultra on his 2014 flhx and it rides much nicer than mine with the expensive 944.
Do the 944's have compression and rebound adjustments?
I recently installed monotubes and now I'm thinking about the rear shocks. Having a hard time deciding on the HD or standard springs. Since I ride solo 90% of the time, the standard springs should suffice.
I have been looking at the Progressive 944's for my 2012 FLHX. This is with heavy duty springs which is intended for riding near or just under the bike's maximum payload capacity, as I have been told.
Speaking with Eastern Performance today, they told me that this shock with lighter springs, Standard Duty, are the new 945's.
Does anyone have any information or experience with 945's. I've searched and can't find any information on these.
Not sure on the 945's but i am now dealing with the 944 HD shocks newly installed. Combined weight of me and the wife is about 350 lbs. Couple weeks ago we took our first long trip, FULLY LOADED also. They are way too stiff for us still. Slab riding was smooth but when nailing those hard bumps and potholes the rebound was so fast and hard she was saying ouch way too often. This is no good for either of us having terrible back pains already. I am working with progressive to have them sent back and get the standard duty springs installed. We need the floating effect when riding, and for the most part they are until you hit the extremes. Hope this helps!

Solo riding I would go with the standards. I can say I also went with the HD front fork spring rebuild kit, and I am happy with those. But the rear HD 944's are too stiff for us riding 2 up. See previous post.

standard springs? I installed standard springs 2 weeks ago, I'm 205lbs and I set the sag but have quickly noticed to just set it according to your butt. This forum says set 1 inch sag...the instructions didn't really say that so I called Progressive. At once inch sag, Progressive told me it would be too soft, they told me to do 3/4 inch. I did 3/4 and it was a bit too stiff. I went back to one inch and it was fine for me. For the heck of it, I took it all the way up to the softest setting and it was still fine solo---just too soft for me. I'd say, don't get to caught up with the sag. I do know how many turns it takes to get a number of different sag measurements just because I wanted to do some testing.
I'd admit....I bet the 13 inch stock air does ride pretty good...which is why alot of those guys don't swap them out.

I decided to go full adjustment on my 944 standard shocks and work backwards. I know this will sound crazy but the ride is just perfect all the way in.(5 grooves) The sag is 1.25 inches.13 inch shock sits at 12.5 on the bike and 11.75 with me on it. I did this the day after the above quote so I really noticed the difference. Much improved. Looking back I should have bought the heavier duty version.
No more getting bounced forward from hitting bottom. I know many of you have no problem at full soft but for me it transferred more from hitting bottom. Too soft will sometimes give you the impression of being hard because you use more of the travel and it transfers more of the shock from hitting bottom. Anyhow just my two cents. Ride safe guys.

Not sure how much u weigh, but at 205lbs I would get 0 sag with 5 lines showing.
