Default 07 UC fairing and putting it back on

taking the fairing off - no prob
some of the holes don't line up when putting it back on
is there some secret or does everyone have to really push and stuff to get them to line up

PUT 2 SCREWS ON THE TOP SIDE IN FIRST (LOOSE) .
THEN TOP 3 OR 5 SCREWS.. LOOSE
THEN BOTTOM 2 SCREWS.. LOOSE.
MOVE FAIRING TO LINE UP SCREWS IN BOTTOM 2 HOLES.
2 PEOPLE WILL MAKE THIS EASIER...
THEN TIGHTEN ALL

There are a lot of wires inside the fairing; be sure they are put back to where they were. The main problem I have seen is wires getting loose (either connectors not placed on their mounting points, or wires that were zip tied being unzipped for working on the bike and not re-zipped) and having too much behind the headlamp.

Otherwise, I install the top center bolt first; then the other two top bolts; then the side bolts; then the lowest two. All are installed loose; then the lowest two are tightened; and, the remaining ones tightened. You can install the windshield with the top three bolts loose--makes it easier to get the first bolt started without the windshield in place.

Also, I always cover the fender when installing or removing the outer fairing. A buddy dropped his outer fairing on his '06 EG and caused obvious damage to the clear coat.

another tip...
put a couple old socks over the passing lamps when you remove/reinstall the outer fairing. It allows you to man-handle the fairing a bit more without having to worry about scratching the paint. Makes the job much easier.
