I picked up a used Road Zeppelin seat. No installation instructions but didn't worry about it since it can't be that hard to get wired up. I plugged it into the accessory connection which I saw through forum was common. When the accessory switch is on I can hear what appears to be the pump running. Not loud, sort of like an aerator for an aquarium. Air is not being pumped into the bladders so I don't think a switch is stuck on.
Does it run all the time when power is applied throught the switch?
Are there other 'easy' wiring options or is the accessory connection pretty much it without rigging a new switch off the battery or power lead?
What happens if I want to use the accessory splitter and put in a light bar or something that stays on for long periods. I don't want the air pump running all the time because it's on the accessory switch also (assuming splitter installed).
The pump runs for about 1 minute when first powered on. I guess this fills a 'reserve' tank so the bladders will inflate instantly.
As for splitting the plug, I know HD makes a splitter but I don't know the part #.
I have seen it here on the forum.
Yep- it runs for a bit when first powered. Makes ya think sumthin' is wrong, but it's normal. Once it's done, it jest sits thar until ya want some air...

That's exactly what I thought, something was wrong. There are two "warranty void if removed stickers" that cover the guts of the air pump that were practically falling off. Of course my parnoia jumped straigth to....something is wrong with it, they tried to fix it, now the pump won't turn off. Good to hear that's not the case.
Servr,
If the pump runs and runs and don't shut off somethinIS wrong...do the switches air the thing up and hold? I betcha ya got a bladder leak somewhere.
As long as you folks are experienced users, how about a report for the rest of us on comfort, reliability, ride height changes (if any) and any other aspects of the Zepplin experience you think might be informative. I've considered something to make both my and my wife's long distance riding much more comfortable. The Zepplin is a pretty expensive solution and some experienced rider information would be great.
Thanks.
I've had the Zepplin about a year now and really like it. I wasn't too keen on the idea a first but figured the money would be worth it if it kept the ol' lady from bitching.
It did take a little playing with at first. After I installed it and pumped it up went for a short ride, noticed immediatley that its wide than the stock seat but not uncomfortable. The next stop was at the drive-in ATM, noticed that my feet didn't hit the ground when I expected them to. I sit a couple of inches higher when I have it pumped up so I had to change to a 9inch windsheild instead of the 6" that I had.
Overall have really liked the Zepplin after a lil getting used to it. Most of the time I have it almost deflated while running around town and then adjust when heading out for longer runs. It is nice to be able to adjust it on the fly, and I have the adjustable backrest as well.
One thing that I did notice out here in the AZ heat... Don't leave it sitting in the sun inflated... That thing will grow with the heat and get very hot and hard. (talking about the seat)
As others have noted, it's appreciably wider than stock - 'bout 4" or so - an' mah better half is 5' tall, so it was wider than she wuz comfortably with. Ride comfort - phenomenal. Put it on one evenin', an' did a 400-mile run the next day....no monkey butt! Bein' able ta adjust it on the fly is great, allows ya to "dial it in" as ya go!
Splitter part number 70264-94A. HD calls it a "switched circuit adapter harness" - most normal people call it a "Y" or a splitter. List price is $14.95.
I had a R/Z seat on my 02 Ultra for several years good seatbutIdid find you sit much higher in the saddle I only have 29 in inseam so had some issues when I stopped also found myself fooling with the buttons on the side when I should have paying attention ..I switch to a Mustang saddle and I am much happier...
