BTW those that have the 6 speed, realistically how much time do you actually spend in 6th gear? Other than freeway driving what real advantage is there to it?
I spend a lot of time in 6th gear. I spend a lot of time on the freeway with a 100 mile round trip to work with 75 miles of it freeway. Why wouldn't you want a six speed? You don't have to use 6th gear if it's not appropriate for your speed.
I, regularly, use 6th gear, above 60 mph, which is at least 1/3 of my riding.

Well choochoo, I don't care to write letters. I don't consider these minor issues worthy of complaining about. I am not complaining, i am just telling what i see about my 08 UC. I have the money to do whatever i want i just don't like spending it. Not gonna be working in my 60s. Sure, i can see your point but you missed mine. As for wearing shorts, I have been doing it for years and i don't endorse it i just do it cause i can just like those who ride without helmets. Don't worry bout it. If if was a skiff we would all go rowing and to each his own said the man eating dog sh#t.

I love and use the 6th gear. Don't forget to bitch about IDS. Man choochoo, what do you ride?

Well if you're not part of the solution (cure, fix it) then you are a part of the problem!

Was curious on th 6 speed.
some posts say shift at 55 som not til 70.
My area has numerous days of high wind , rolling hills and some steep
mountains.
There are days that can't get above 50 mph without dropping to 4th and sometimes 3rd.
And other than free way speed limits aren't high enough to justify 6 speeds if most aren't shifting until 65 or 70.
Because if it's full potential isn't realized til 65 /70 then I would constantly be at such a low rpm as to be lugging the bike engine.
But was interested in a screaming eagle 6 speed or a baker.
But will wait and see which seems to hold up the best over time.

On both my 2008 FLHR Road King and my 2007 FXD Dyna Super Glide, I've used 6th, regularly, above 55 mph without any lugging.
Maybe full-dressers need higher speed/rpms because they are heavier?

My 2006 Triumph Scrambler ran so lean, to comply with EPA regs,it blued the pipes. Just like classic Triumphs.
The high pipes were so hot my inner calves turned red; despite heat shields.
All in all, a great classic style bike. [sm=biker.gif]

That Triumph reminds me of the old Honda 305 Scrambler.....like.

Also I think the UC's and bikes with lowers dont cool as well as w/out the lowers.....its plain to see that, I think the MOCO even has something in text about adding lowers to certain bikes and that they should nor be used when ambient temps are higher than like 70*F.....dont quote me on the exact temp though.

Ahhhh this arguement again. Are any of you actual engineers? How about contractors even? Do you know how long it takes for R&D? I'm guessing you aren't. None of you that are saying Harley took the "cheap" way out. What did you exspect? Them to retro-fit Revolution motors into the bikes for a fix? When the standards changed, they had to do something, either halt production while they design a completly new motor, or play with the tuning. Do we live such pampered lifes that when we have a solution to a problem it's still not good enough? The heat dowload is free! You know, I thought my Mustang should be the fastest car on the road, it's not, so I should blame Ford for that right?

I am a Captain and i am contracted out to work for another company that has engineers. Does that count? anyway, as long as i can buy something to make it better i am happy so i see this as a never ending quest to have what i think is a smooth running bike. No complaints here just seeking knowledge. For me it's no different than anything else i buy. New truck came with rims and tires but i bought a new set anyway for looks. Came with tinted windows but went darker for looks. Came with radio and speakers but upgraded for more sound. Grill,Lights,Valentine 1 Radar detector,K&N Cold air kit,Flowmaster,Bedliner, and a few other upgrades. Bike will get the same treatment. Wife says she will leave me if i touch her car or house so this is all i have to tinker with. Don't think free download will fix heat issue as well as sert but not sure on that. Dyno here i come.
