Default RoadGlide fairing pocket door spring saga

The right one broke on my '04 FLTRI. Went to 4 hardware stores, and could not find a replacement torsion spring as a replacement. The MoCo wants one to buy the whole assy....door, hinge, etc. and was NOT responsive to the Parts Department request for a few springs. The little thing is exactly the same size as a clothes pin spring.....if anyone remembers those things....but they are made in China now and they use galvanized pot metal. No workee.
We have a spring manufacturer here in Tulsa, but they don't sell to the public. But I whined enough, and one of the guys was a fellow motorcyclist, and he made me 4 of them on his lunch hour. No charge. A true Brother-in Arms.

Bingo! Got lucky. But the irritation comes when HD doesn't respond to it's own dealer......I know the dang things might cost 5 cents, and they'd charge me 5 bucks each for one.....but hey....guess I expected way too much, huh?

That sucks. I'm thinking about getting locks for mine and possibly mounting a GPS in one of them or something. I find those glove boxes fairly useless. Sure wish they were designed better.

The old Tour Glides had locking covers. It would be an easy modification to add locks to the upper portion of those lids......could maybe get keyed-alike saddlebag/tourpak locks and use the one key for the ignition.
While I had the fairing off for the repair, I soldered an SAE electrical connection in-line with the cigarette lighter, and ran the plug into the right fairing pocket. Just had to enlargen the existing hole a little in the bottom of the pocket......easy.
