Default And the results are....

I got the 08 Ultra back from the shop just before closing yesterday. Had the SE A/C, SERT, and Vance and Hines slash-cut slip-ons installed along with the 1k service. The dyno runs showed these numbers;
Before hp = 60.82 tq = 72.91
After hp = 71.10 tq = 81.69
That's a 16% increase in hp and 12% increase in tq....not too bad.
I was a little surprised at the numbers for the stock setup, I thought they would be higher, and so did the shop. This is the first 96 ci bike that they did a dyno run on totally stock and apparently the numbers are not much higher than a stock tc88 setup (2-4 numbers higher for both hp and tq).

Please don't get me wrong....I am ABSOLUTELY NOT complaining....numbers are just numbers and don't tell the whole story. It was cold out yesterday and I wasn't dressed for it, but did manage to get in a 25 mile ride. Throttle response is WAY better, and the bike pulls much better all the way up past 5,000 rpm. And did I mention the sound??? No??? If you are considering slip-ons, but haven't decided on what kind yet, do yourself a favor and find someone with these Vance and Hines slash-cuts and give them a listen. If you don't like "loud" you won't like them, but they aren't just loud, at idle they have a deep rumble, during hard excelleration they really growl, and they even have a nice throaty sound during decelleration. Don't know what effect they will have on listening to the stereo, but I generally don't listen to the speakers anyway, usually just through the headset in my helmet, so I'm not too worried.

I'm definitely satisfied with the results and will get a better feel for overall performance this weekend as it looks like another reasonably nice one....can't believe how long the nice weather is hanging on here in Wyoming, but I'll take every nice day the good lord chooses to send my way.

Hope this has been helpful for any of you that might be "sitting on the fence" about doing this upgrade.

Given some of the numbers I've seen here I thought mine were a little low, but was wondering if elevation makes a difference? I've heard it does in a carborated engine, just not sure if it does in one with EFI? We are at 6,200 feet here and I've talked to several stock car owners and even boat owners who have said they can't get their machines to run worth a darn at this altitude. Anyway, the bike feels good, I like the sound, and overall I'm satisfied with the results.

I would think the altitude would affect ya big-time. I know that race cars typically show an impact when raced at attitude vs. a sea-level track, so it'd make sense.

Then again, this IS Texas - an' everythang is bigger an' better.....

That's because you were in Dallas... Everyone in Houston knows that Dallas is full of it [sm=boink3.gif]. Just kidding guys. Glad to see you're enjoying the scoot and your riding time. Not to brag but tomorrow it'll be a high of 79 in Galveston at the Lone Star Rally and get down tothe near freezing 50's at night.

I'm still drooling for a new bike with all the goodies and someday I'll get there. In the meantime ride any chance you can don't sweat the small stuff.

I'm riding up there this weekend - maybe we'll pass each other. I'll be in the North Dallas/Richardson area for my friend's annual chili cookoff.

Have a safe but great ride.

I lived in Dallas 18 years and was born in Houston. Austin has been my home for 23 years now and I know for a fact that Dallas may well be the smelly crotch of the world but if they was to give the world an enema they's stick the tube in Houston... BFG!
