Haven't riden a bike for many years without a windshield or faring. Took off my windshield on my RoadKing and what a surprise. I loved the way the bike handled without the windshield, felt like it was a small sporster, but, the wind was unbearible.Couldn't really enjoy the ride because it was like being in a hurricane. How do you guysenjoy riding with allthat wind? Isee bikers crusing everywhere with out front shields, but don't know how they do it. Icouldn't even hear myself think. I had a half helment on whihmight not be the best helmet choice. Does a 3/4 quarter helmet at least keep the wind form bashing your ears to death? Boy, I must be getting old. Want to ride without the front windshield, but just can't take allthe wind turbulence in the face.Anyone else esperience this or am I just turning into anold fart?.I think I know the answer..."OLD FART"
Yes, like me, ur an old fart..
In the summer I put on a shorty windshiled on my UG.. Lots more wind.. and I only wear a half helmet. Uve gotta wear ear plugs if ur on the highway. Makes the trip bearable..
Good luck !
You're right, it is noisy without a windshield. Even with a windshield but no fairing it can be noisy. A 3/4 helmet does really help to keep the wind out of your ears. I frequently ride with just a dew rag, and even with a windshield (on my 02 Dyna) there is way too much wind in the ears, so I will wear the waxy/moldable ear plugs, but sometimes they can take away too much sound and seem to almost throw off my balance expecially when riding twisty mounty roads. My 08 Ultra with a 3/4 helmet gives me the best combination of reducing wind noise while still being able to hear the bike and stereo. Guess I'm too old for the brut force riding into the wind without any protection. By the way, surprisingly my full face helmet is almost noiser than my 3/4 helmet....wind noise from below the chin bar.

I purchased a full face helmet two weeks ago, Scorpion Exo 700, to help extend my riding season. As a test, I pulled the windshield off and headed down the interstate. The helmet makes a big difference. I guess I'm a spoiled old fart, I really like my windshield.
I wear a full face that I think is louder than a 3/4 or 1/2. I wear earplugs most of the time and they work well. Please note I have a fairing on my street glide. If you do not have a pair you like you can buy sample pack on line that contain a variety of plugs and then work your way to chose the one pair you like. Most kit come with anout 10-15 pairs of different types.
Full face helmet or Harley has a nice 3/4 helmet with face shield I have as well. Biggest problem I have is keeping my hair from getting tangled LOL [/align]
